The recent appointment of Jim Zehringer as Agriculture Director has left a vacancy in the 77th District House Seat. WHIOtv.com and WHIO radio are reporting that former Rep. Jim Buchy is interested in the appointment. Whoever gets the appointment will serve a full two-year term and then be up for re-election in 2012.
Buchy previously served this office from 1983 to 2000, when term limits prevented him from running for another term. Jim Buchy is currently the President of Buchy Foods in Greenville.

So Buchy couldn't RUN for another term, but he could be APPOINTED to another term? Or perhaps win as a write-in? I guess the whole situation is odd.
ReplyDeleteWhoever takes it, though, needs to realize that they would likely only serve four years before needing to take a run at State Senator once that position is term-limited, as completing 8 full years would result in having to attempt to take on a Senator in the middle of his/her two terms, and that's just not a likely battle to win. That is assuming they wanted to remain an elected official serving in Columbus.
Any other names out there yet?
That would be fantastic! Ohio definitely needs Jim back… Good Luck Jim!
ReplyDeleteJim would be a great choice for the district.
ReplyDeleteNobody would represent this community better - Jim really cares about the people. Best of luck!
ReplyDeleteI agree with the last 3 commentators - Jim Buchy is a wise choice for this position.
ReplyDeleteMr. Buchy is an inspiration to this community and is the best possible choice for the position.
ReplyDeleteJim Buchy is one of Darke County's finest. We wish him the best.
ReplyDeleteIf you like the condition that the State and this area is in, Buchy would be a good choice. No thanks...
ReplyDeleteSo much for term limits, the people spoke, or so they thought.
ReplyDeleteBut Jim is probably the best politician I have ever met, A great guy in every aspect.
This area needs new leadership, not a term limited old guard politician.
ReplyDeleteI can't help but think those making comments against Buchy's return to politics are just spewing general rhetoric against anyone who has held office at length. This is "throwing the baby out with the bathwater" type logic.
ReplyDeleteTake time to meet Jim and you'll see he is a great replacement for Zehringer.
I like Jim, and I think he would do a good job, but if it were someone else, especially from another party, I suspect everyone would be complaining about career politicians and term limits. You can't have it both ways.
ReplyDeleteI have known Jim for years, Like I said he he is a great guy in every aspect.
ReplyDeleteTerm limits were enacted for a reason.
Regarding the comments about term limits: Buchy is no longer term limited, so he could be appointed and run for re-election. The term limit is eight consecutive years (four consecutive terms), and terms and considered consecutive if they are separated by less than 4 years.
ReplyDeleteThere are so few men regardless of their profession that actually keep their word. Jim is one. A great choice. No one ever attended sessions like he did and will.
