Greenville Rotary meeting report - November 2nd

The Greenville Rotary Club met Tuesday, November 2, 2010 at the Chestnut Village Community Center of the Brethren Retirement Community with 32 members in attendance and 2 guests.

Following lunch at Noon, the club enjoyed hearing the program speaker, Rotary Governor of District #6670, Norma Berry. She presented Rita McCans, Club President, with this year’s flag.  Norma asked the group some rhetorical questions: Why did you join Rotary? Are you a member of Rotary or are you a Rotarian? How many Rotarians are there worldwide and why hasn’t that number changed in 25 years? Norma stated that RI is partly to blame for dropping the ball in regards to marketing and communication, the district has not been a good resource for the local clubs and the clubs themselves have not asked the hard questions.  Over the next few years, RI is moving to “Future Vision”.  Currently 100 clubs are piloting a new way of doing things.  There also is a 5th avenue of service called New Generations.  This initiative is inviting 20 to 30 year olds to join Rotary.

Anyone interest in becoming a member of the Greenville Rotary Club may contact the Club Secretary, Christy Baker at 937-548-3779 or by email at cbaker@ymcadarkecounty.org; or the Club Treasurer, Diane Shuff at 937-548-6181 or by email at dshuff@myfsbdirect.com.
