Kasich selects Jim Zehringer for cabinet post

Governor-elect John Kasich announced today that State Representative Jim Zehringer will be the new director of the Department of Agriculture when Kasich takes office in January 2011.

Zehringer is a resident of Ft. Recovery and has served as representative of Ohio's 77th House District for the last four years. Zehringer is a small business owner and has his own family farm (Zehringer's farm is on the Darke-Mercer County line). Prior to beoming a state representative, Zehringer served as commissioner for Mercer County. Zehringer was the ranking member of the Agriculture Committee in the Ohio House.

Jim Zehringer has been a great leader for the 77th district, particularly on agriculture-related issues. His presence in the district will be missed, but he is the perfect choice for this important job. Congratulations Jim, and best of luck in Columbus.

UPDATE: WHIO has an article and a short interview with Zehringer here.

  2. If all of Kasich’s decisions are as good as his selection of Jim Zehringer as the new DIRECTOR of the Department of Agriculture, both rural and urban Ohio will have a great four years.
