annual hazardous materials training exercise

On Saturday April 16, 2011, the Darke Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC) and the Darke County Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Management (EMA) held their annual hazardous materials training exercise at the Greenville BASF facility on Martin Street, Greenville Ohio. This exercise simulated an overturned truck with a hazardous chemical leak. The responding agencies were tasked to identify the chemical, develop a plan to mitigate the problem and then carry out the plan to control the spill and ensure the safety of the surrounding community. All phases of the exercise were performed successfully.
These exercises are important for local and county wide first responders and hazmat personnel to stay proficient so they can provide all county residence with a high quality of service. It takes a coordinated effort of many individuals and groups to ensure that this type of exercise is successful.
A special thank you to the following for their participation and support in making this year’s exercise a success: BASF Corporation, Randolph Co IN EMA, Miami Co EMA, Preble Co EMA, Mercer Co EMA, Ohio EMA, The Andersons, Darke Co Sheriff Office, Darke Co HazMat Team, Greenville Police Dept, Greenville Fire Dept, Greenville Twp Rescue, Ansonia Fire Dept, Arcanum Fire Dept, Liberty Twp Fire Dept, North Star Fire Dept, Rossburg Fire Dept and Jeff Zumbrun of Dragos Photos.
