continue Ryan's passion about education even though he wasn't physically here to encourage the students,” said April.

The scholarship is designated for Darke County high school students in FFA or graduating from MVCTC who are intending to pursue a career in agriculture. The first scholarship will be awarded to a student from the class of 2011. The deadline to apply for this scholarship, as well as 36 other HOPE Foundation scholarships, is June 1. Applications are available from high school guidance counselors or online at www.hopedarkecounty.com.

“Ryan was a man with a huge heart,” April said. “His life was a continuous lesson in compassion and faith in God. The thing that touched me the most about his spirit was that even when he was not feeling well, he wanted to make others happy and feel good.”

Ryan was so well-loved and respected by others that during his illness from fall 2009 to summer 2010, hundreds of former classmates and teachers, fellow teachers, and friends came together to sponsor fund raisers for Ryan, April and their infant daughter, Aubrey. Through a beef raffle, spaghetti dinner and pork dinner, over $11,000 was raised for Ryan’s scholarship fund.

Staying true to its namesake, the Ryan Wulber Memorial Scholarship can now provide for others, as Ryan was so fond of doing.
