Arcanum Historical Society presents Southern Darke County Civil War Stories

Come and bring your Civil War Ancestor stories and memorabilia and join the Arcanum Wayne Trail Historical Society on Thursday, May 12th at 7:00 p.m. for a Round Table Panel. The panel will feature guest Marilyn Rosser Stickler, descendent of the Rosser family of Arcanum and local historians and society members, JoAnne Hill and Bill Gunder. The panel will share Southern Darke County Civil War stories and history through diaries, letters and research of family members. The study of the war that divided the country continues for the society as the country celebrates the 150th anniversary of the event. Many more stories exist in Southern Darke County that are unknown unless local citizens bring them to share on the evening of May 12th. The public is invited to attend and bring any family stories to share.

Annette Stewart, Genealogical Chairman for the society, reports that during the month of May a display of Civil War items and an in-dept display of Civil War soldier, Samuel H. Culbertson will be on view for the public . Be sure to stop by the historical building at the Old Fashion Days Festivals, May -20-21-22nd, to enjoy this display along with the following activities. The society will be hosting game night beginning at 6:30 p.m. on Friday night, the 20th, along with the homemade cakes, cookies, pies and for a terrific bake sale. Saturday, 21st begins with the continued bake sale until sold out. Don’t miss the return of the annual Corn Hole Tourney on Saturday, 21st with registration beginning at noon, games start at 1:00 p.m. The Sheep-A-Go-Go tickets are on sale for $5.00 and someone will win a $100.00, that someone could be you! The event will be Saturday the 21st at 7:00 p.m. See any society member for a tickets.

Returning by popular demand is the frozen soup stand by the historical society to the Farmers Market each Saturday from May 28th through August. The famous Arcanum Cheeseburger will be available. Don’t forget to stop by the market when doing your Saturday morning business in Arcanum.
