6 Hummingbirds Banded

Alan Chartier returned to the Darke County Parks Nature Center on Saturday, August 6th for his ever popular Hummingbird Banding Program. Alan began the program by discussing his on-going research on Ruby-Throated Hummingbirds, the only hummingbird found in Ohio. This amazing bird weighs less than an ounce and can fly up to 60mph. After learning about hummingbirds, the group of 50 people headed outside to check the traps that were set up before the program. Alan banded 6 hummingbirds and they were released by different people in the group. This was a unique experience that was thoroughly enjoyed by all in attendance. Perhaps one the birds banded in Darke County will be found thousands of miles away!
