DCSO: CONSTRUCTION ZONE FATAL ACCIDENT

On Monday, August 15th, 2011 at approximately 10:53 AM, the Darke County Sheriff's Office 9-1-1 Dispatch Center received a 9-1-1 call of a 16 year old male being fatally run over by a bobcat on West Main Street in Osgood in a construction zone. Darke County Sheriff's Deputies along with Osgood Fire and Rescue and the Darke County Coroner's Office responded to the scene.

Preliminary investigation revealed James Springer, 48 of Celina, Ohio and owner of Springer Sons Tree Service LLC., was operating a bobcat front loader when he accidentally backed the bobcat over his son, 16 year old Damon Springer also of Celina. Damon was pronounced dead at the scene.

Springer Sons Tree Service LLC. had been sub-contracted to remove trees in the construction zone. OSHA was also notified and responded to the accident scene.

This makes the fourth fatal traffic accident in Darke County this year.

This accident remains under investigation.
