Jesse Green Supporters March on in Jesse's Absence at the AO Parade

There were more than 28 Jesse Green supporters in the Annie Oakley parade on Saturday, July 30. They added a flag to the float to represent Jesse, who was off serving his country. Here they are saluting the flag to show respect. Ron Smith led everyone in prayer in place of Jesse before the start of the parade.

Unfortunately, candidate Jesse Green could not join his supporters for the Annie Oakley Parade today. Green is a decorated Lieutenant Colonel and an experienced Judge Advocate in the Ohio Army National Guard and is currently away with his unit on their annual two-week training. Jesse says, “I have been proud to serve my country for over 27 years now, but send my regrets that I could not be here to meet you all in person on this festive day.”

  1. OK, so if Mr. Green gets the appointment, then on his annual leave - not only doe the government pay for his salary that week, we as voters in Darke County have to pay for another judge to take his place?

  2. That is a good question to ask. If we are going to be concerned about Mr. Green taking time off to serve his country, perhaps we should also be concerned with what happens when the current judge takes one of her many vacations each month. I'm sure she receives a salary on top of the county having to pay a visiting judge. This is a topic worthy of discussion; one which we should address to both current and potential judges.

  3. That is absolutely false! He has been active in the military and working in the Prosecutor's office for 17 years. He does not "charge" the taxpayers for his time off- he uses his own allotted time off.

So, can I take this to mean that Monin never takes time off? (Hmmmm. Maybe someone should look into that) Or that Monin supporters are anti-military? Sure sounds that way.

  4. Are judges required to work on Saturdays or walk in parades?

He was serving his country, for Pete's sake! It's not like he left work for the afternoon to attend a ribbon cutting ceremony at some random place just so he could get his picture in the paper! LOL!

  5. i think the point trying to be made is that during his time of leave, one could view it as he is working 2 jobs.

will his position in the national guard ever interfere with his ability to serve as municipal judge? I think this is a very fair question.

  6. The two candidates have been working hard on the campaign trail. You could easily ask these questions directly to the candidates themselves, which would be way better than throwing out innuendo in these comments.

  7. Before any of you start speculating on vacations and leave.......go down to the court house and look at it all yourself. Vacation time, specified professional/personal leave, etc. is all mapped out, as it is for every court judge in every county.
Monnin and Hein are doing it by the book (and both doing a pretty decent job in their respective positions), and if Green were to get in I'm sure that he would as well.

  9. Pleazse show respect for our service men and women. Serving the state of Ohio and the United States of America is honorable and should not be looked down upon. Shame on you.

  10. While they may have been doing things by the book, Hein's performance classified as decent is very much up for debate

  11. Before this simple thread about an appearance in the AO parade takes a turn for the even more bizarre, I'm closing comments on it. There will be plenty of time and opportunity to leave comments regarding opinion on the candidates. Until then, you can express your feelings by voting on the comments already approved.
