Let’s Build It, The Future is Our Kids – A Community’s Investment

Biography Banquet – South School
The residents of the Greenville City School District will be presented with the opportunity to make an investment in the future of this community very soon. A vote in favor of the bond issue found on the November 8th ballot will, along with the State of Ohio’s funding share, generate the revenue necessary to build a new K-8th grade facility and renovate the existing High School. An environmentally friendly (LEED Certified) and efficient building utilizing the benefits of ‘green’ technologies with up-to-date security features, total handicap accessibility, and 21st Century academic learning spaces is much needed.

Life-long educators, Ed and Becky Peltz, believe in the future value a good school system and its facilities have for children. “Let's continue to build a better tomorrow for our children and grandchildren. Let's invest in a new school and build a better future for our community. Vote yes on November 8 for Greenville City Schools,” said Peltz.

Susan Kaiser has two children who have graduated from Greenville and one who is currently a student in the system. She writes, “Greenville students and staff are committed to making our schools something we can be proud of, and I am proud of them! Our school district recently earned an “Excellent” rating from the Ohio Department of Education for the 2010-11 school years – a first! This is a considerable accomplishment. It’s now time for us to show our commitment by supporting the Greenville School Levy. The passage of the issue on the November 8th ballot will allow the construction of a new K-8 facility and renovation of the high school, improving the educational and environmental conditions that our students greatly need. I encourage each of you to take a few minutes on November 8th to help Greenville take that step toward a better investment…better school facilities…and better opportunities for our children. Everyone will benefit by a prosperous community; the kind of community we can be proud of, and one that our children can grow in. Our kids deserve the best, and our community deserves the best.”

  2. Is the all caps really necessary? just saying :D

We are dealing with a multimillion dollar business, perhaps if we gave it a legit chance this city could make something on this investment.

It isn't going to matter if they ask for this now or 10years from. Is what will matter, is that eventually those buildings have to be replaced. They are economically unsustainable liabilities to this district and most importantly the taxpayer.

Just imagine how much you all would be spending on maintaining Gettysburg or North.

  3. If this multimillion dollar buis. was run as a buis, We would have met our needs! Selling schools to put our children into a house trailer is not the only multimillion $ decision made by these multimillion $ few! Who will really prosper? Vote NO On this school tax for the next 28yrs.

  4. It's so sad that some people go against this. I was a student in these schools and they were terrible. Roofs caving in? Asbestos? Lead paint? Join the surrounding areas and get the facilities. It's the least we can do for the kids in this town. If it's not passed now than the government will step in and it will cost you more. Educate yourselves!

  5. Too many people in Greenville that would rather live in mediocre conditions than pay a dime to be better. Unfortunately, the town is looking more like a ghost town by the day. If this doesn't pass you can say goodbye to the people who actually put money into this town.

  6. I agree this school system needs an over haul
Would you build your new home on a broken down foundation? Would you invest your hard earned money into a investment that you know has had bad reviews? It is your choice how you will vote but if you vote yes with the current leadership you will be voting for more of the same. If you vote No for now, it don't mean there will not be any new school it will just delay so better leadership can take over and bring trust back to the system. Who knows, with better leadership it may cost us less but we need to bring in new changes and stop all the waist from the top at the tax payers expense. Then build.

  7. I will vote yes for the tax levy but I am not a huge fan of LEEDS building designs. LEEDS is a politically correct plan for "green" designs without proven success. There are components of LEEDS that are good ideas such as no VOC building materials but the air handling systems are a real bear to manage and things like solar panels are not that efficient, overall. LEEDS is a fairly new concept and has not had time to prove whether the design is good or not (it looks good on paper).

  8. I suspect LEEDS is another stipulation of the State for its share of the funding to build a new school. Politically-correct and trends with the concept of environmentally-friendly, this relays the message to communities that Ohio is doing its part in reducing the carbon footprint of operating public facilities. LEEDS is not proven successful because the concept is fairly new. LEEDS buildings have rather delicate systems that could require more up-keep than traditional buildings. Take some of the design concepts from LEEDS and combine with traditional building plans and get a good design that offers better energy efficiency than what old buildings offer but with simpler components so upkeep is not so expensive.

  9. LEEDS may be a way for Ohio to attract a different kind of industry to this State, not because the design is all that solid.

P.S. I will vote yes for a new school. If the building levy does not pass soon, the State will come in and force Greenville to build, costing the taxpayers more in the long run. Tne gripe about poor leadership is the same, tired, excuse I have heard the entire 20 years I have lived in GCS district. I have a feeling the gripe will live on for the next 20 years because people refuse to become the solution instead of the problem. After all, it's easier this way...

  10. We need jobs and money to keep our homes and pay our taxes. Just because the increase doesnt hurt you it doesnt mean that it doesnt hurt the rest of us!!! Have you noticed all the sheriff sales this year just for our area? Aparantly alot of people can't afford the taxes and payments they already have. Or a job to pay them.

  11. The new word of day appears to be investment, when politicians want to spend money. For some reason, no one wants to say spend for the future, and a voting for any tax nowadays if folly. Always expect some ulterior motives when a politician says invest in something in the future. How will young children in other parts of town get to this new school, why it will take more buses, can't have kindergarten, 1'st, sec'nd etc graders walking from the south end of town to the new school. Ulterior motives come to mind again?

  12. Vote No for new school

  13. Many are still out of work, unfortunately, but there are jobs available outside this area...don't expect to see any in this area if this levy doesn't pass. No one wants to move here, let alone bring business here. If you can't afford a small increased tax now, you surely won't be able to afford the increase if this levy doesn't pass and the state steps in. What will you do then?

  14. LEED has become a national standard to measure green activities, and it will only improve over time. There are no other standards to measure these activities that work as well as LEED in the building and construction industry. We are fortunate enough to have some standards to help us reach our "green" goals that will allow better efficiency and a healthy environment in our school buildings. We certainly did not have this opportunity years ago.

  15. The request for the facility is straight forward; no hidden agendas, no ulterior motives.

The state will NOT step in for facilities. Posted comments stating this are not founded in fact.

The state will step in if fiscal emergency. That does not apply to Greenville.

For the first time ever, in the 40 years of being a voter in this community, I will be voting NO for a school issue. This is a result of having no confidence that the current administration and BOE has the capability to make a wise decisions relating to either the need or 'value points' with design of the building.

    ReplyDelete
  16. I don't need the BOE to tell me we need a new school. Other than the ones that have already closed, I've been in South and the Jr. High. I have seen things for myself. Maybe others should take the time to look as well.

  19. Workhorse closing? 173 people out of work. Will this help property values here? Vote no on this school tax! The boe must have deep pockets and idle time to spend on this over and over and over

    ReplyDelete
  20. The BOE has no problem spending your tax dollars. Now if it was their own money they were spending it would be altogether different.

    ReplyDelete
  21. This is why we need change on the board. When they will not allow the PTA in at East because the administration will not allow it,you need a change...VOTE for MATIX and BANTA for school board...

  22. I agree with 4:12pm
