Greenville Whirlpool Plant Expansion Driven by Tax Credits

Dayton Daily News is reporting of a deal that has been reached between the State of Ohio and Whirlpool that will see significant expansion in our area.

The deal requires Whirlpool to create an additional $2.2 million in payroll at the Greenville plant and maintain operations in Greenville for at least 8 years. The company is expected to create 65 full time jobs as a result of the deal.

This, of course, is in the wake of the October announcement that Whirlpool would be cutting approximately 5,000 jobs worldwide due to soft demand and high material costs.

  5. 7:29AM: That's right. And, just think of how many jobs we could have if we tore down the schools altogether.

  6. The DDN story states that Whirlpool received a "45 percent, five-year tax credit" from the State of Ohio works? Does this mean Whirlpool gets a 45 percent reduction in its state taxes for five years? Could someone explain this?
