  1. If anyone is interested to see how much has been accomplished this year in Darke County jobs wise, contact the Kiwanis club or any member and plan to attend. I think people will be surprised to hear how successful we have been this year. It will be a good presentation.

  2. Really Mr. Stegall? If there were so many jobs where are they and why is our un-employment still at a high? What happened to bringing in 100 plus jobs - fill the empty buildings - and what about Neff Company sending those jobs to the Domincan Republic - what did you are anyone else do to stop that? Amazes me that our government people think that these 1-2 jobs are going to sustain our community! What exactly does our Mr. Salukl do for the high price salary he receives?

  3. 2:42PM - You ask what Mr. Saluk does because it's obvious you have no idea. Why not go to the meeting and find out for yourself. I was not sure of how well Mr. Saluk would do in this position but so far he has been excellent at working with our local industries and both retaining jobs and bringing new jobs in. Just because you haven't taken the time to educate yourself doesn't mean there aren't positive things happening. Go to the meeting and if you are still not satisfied with his performance, then you can bitch.

  4. Even if "anonymous" 2:42 did go to the meeting she would STILL bitch! Some people are never, ever happy - always blaming someone else for their problems. Boo hoo.

  5. 3:44 - My hard earned tax dollars and my right as a citizen of the United States entitles me to my opinion and my "bitching"... You say he has retained jobs - I ask you to contact the Greenville Income Tax office and ask the Tax Administrator about that - and what about the jobs at neff Lettering? I work many many hours and I don't feel its necessary to attend a meeting that is in the middle of the day to "inform" my self - that should be "Public Knoweldge" and seeing is believing!

  6. 5:41 pm: I Take accountability for my problems and I find solutions to make my life happy.... Don't judge a book by its cover! Just asking questions - making our "leaders" accountable!

  7. Anonymous, it is obvious to me that you absolutely refuse to see the expansion and retention of businesses that have happened this year, but I will try one more time. As for new business there is Continental Carbonic (75 jobs) Fram (100 jobs) American plasitics recycling (15 jobs) and Whirlpool, GTI, Specialized castings, Jafe glass, and Klockner Pentaplast, and Integrity Ambulance all have hired or are hiring or planning expansion along with a few others we cannot mention now. Come along to the meeting as my guest, and maybe, just maybe your attitude will change about what we are doing in Darke County. This could make for a very Merry Christmas for you and your family.

  8. 9:32 - If your hard earned tax dollars are so important to you wouldn't you want to get informed or is it easier to just sit in your bubble and complain. Can't make the meeting? Then call Mr. Saluk up and ask him to give you the numbers. You will hear the ones Mr. Stegall stated above and others. Or are you afraid you might hear something that doesn't fit your limited view of the world.

Call the Tax Admin yourself and ask what the tax base would look like without these jobs.

Yes, you are entitled to your opinion. And yes, the information IS public knowledge. You just have to want to know the facts, something you obviously don't want to investigate.

Seeing IS believing. So open your eyes or continue to walk around blind.

  10. Mike:

You forgot about Ramco which was both retention and expansion. 2011 has been good. People seeking work need to stop feeling like things are hopeless and start looking again. Employers ARE hiring!

  11. "If there were so many jobs where are they and why is our un-employment still at a high?"

Really? GTI and Whirlpool struggle to get workers, GTI can't get them.

    Go bark up another tree.

  12. Fact Bear, I think there are 2 things you need to check. One is Continental Carbonic, I know of one young man who just got hired there, and is on his 30 day probationary period. The other is the Integrity Ambulance situation. It is my understanding that Greenville used the 400k to pay for infrastructure on the first 700 feet of Integrity Blvd., or whatever it is called. No money went to a private individual. Integrity owns the park as I understand it, but most cities usually extend infrastructure anyway for Industrial parks because they recoup money on sewer and water rates, plus income tax, so that is not unusual.

  13. The land is not owned by "Integrity". It is owned by an individual named John Johnston. You can find this by going to the auditor's website
    http://www.darkecountyrealestate.org/Results.aspx?SearchType=Address&Criteria1=&Criteria2=&Criteria3=integrity
It is a handout when an individual gets 400k worth of free infrastructure on his own land. This has not been done in the past to develop a raw site. It is going to take a lot of sewage to recoup that 400k. The irony is that the city is threatening to shut down the city pool because it cannot afford to run it while handing 400k to John Johnston. Another example of government giving handouts to those who don't deserve it.

  14. Great job Darke County! Slowly growth is exactly what this community needs! Hopefully the school levy will pass and then we continue to see growth! Hats off to those that are dedicated to growth and making things happen!

  15. Great job by all! The fruits of your hard work are huge positive for the area. Your efforts are appreciated. Even the "old blind ref"!

A very well deserved Happy Holidays to our loyal public servants. Best of luck in 2012 and thanks for all you do.

  16. To all the people complaining, it could be a lot worse in the county. we could be losing jobs, but we aren't. we can't expect to go back to how things were before the economic crisis overnight. it will take a long time to get back to those levels. the jobs that are being retained and created here in Darke County may not be alot, but as the saying goes, slow and steady wins the race.

He owns the company, You might consider just stopping before you say something else that is; wrong, Ignorant.

  18. It amazes me that we have elected officials that are not bright enough to look up the facts on the auditor's site before they speak. Anyone can spin a different view, all you do is leave out important details. Good Job, Mike Stegall!

  19. Pat your back- John Johnson is Integrity Ambulance.

  20. The fact is that there was a private handout to this individual. I suppose this is not viewed as welfare due to Mr. Johnston being wealthy. HD Supply closed up after getting a similar handout from the city and jobs disappeared, but that is not mentioned.

    ReplyDelete
  21. H. D. Supply was bought out nationally by Hajoca, which is keeping a store here. I am not sure how many of H.D's employees Hajoca kept.

    ReplyDelete
  22. what about Neff lettering Mr Stegall - what did you do to keep those jobs here?

    ReplyDelete
  23. LMOA, Factbear would have been wise to have heeded my advice, instead of just saying something else that turned out to be wrong.

Go check and see who payed for Greenvilles industrial park, I'll bet it wasn't the tenants.

    ReplyDelete
  24. The industrial park sections were sold to the occupants at a profit. The money to form it was private money. Gomer, you have neither refuted anything I have said nor continued on topic. I imagine you stare at yourself in the mirror at night wearing only a tricorner hat with some teabags dangling from it.

  25. I have an issue with the City spending 400K on a road leading to ONE business. During the same time period, the City has laid off employees and cut the pay of others. In addition, the city budget is so tight for 2012 that many departments have no budget for needed supplies like pens and copy paper. They have to re-use trash can liners, and I'll be surprised if they can buy toilet paper. Yes, this business will bring a couple of jobs to Greenville, but what about the lives of current and laid-off employees? The City could have kept its staff level and kept people employed rather than building a 400K road.

  26. For those of you that have been displaced or lost your job or taken pay cuts, I feel for you. You should be glad no extra taxes for new school buildings will be hindering your pockets the first of the year. I do feel our economy will get worse before it gets better.
With all the companies that have came to town with jobs with high to low pay, they are out their but you cant be picky if you wont to work. In any case the jobs that have came to town did not require any new school buildings which proves you don't need new schools to bring in new jobs.

    ReplyDelete
  27. These are existing businesses so much of the work that has been done is getting them to stay/expand. Without the ED office, this would not have happened.

When it comes to attracting new business, schools do matter. If you don't know that it's because you have never been in that process. Don't let lack of knowledge evolve into ignorance. There is a difference.

Greenville continues to slide down the slippery slope of indifference, fueled by narrow-minded people. The writing is on the wall and each passing moment allows the ink to dry. It's not just about schools. It's about infrastructure, business, crime, personal/community pride, progress and yes, education. There is no such thing as a free lunch. You want nice things and a nice community, you have to invest in it with your actions and your money.

If you don't take care of what you have, you end up with nothing. Greenville is well on it's way.

  28. dear republicans,
does all this job growth here mean president obama is doing a good job and should be re-elected?
There has to be a reason for this growth, what is it?
