DCSO: One Car Accident Near Greenville

On January 12, 2012 at 8:07 PM, Darke County Deputies, along with Greenville Township Fire Department and Greenville Rescue were dispatched to the 2700 block of State Route 571 for a rollover accident with entrapment. Investigation revealed that Jacob Hill, 19, of Greenville was eastbound on State Route 571 when he lost control of his vehicle and drove off the left side of the roadway. Jacob’s vehicle, a Chevy S10 pickup, rolled over, coming to rest on its wheels. Jacob, who was the lone occupant, was ejected from the vehicle and then crawled back into the truck before emergency crews arrived.

Careflight was requested to the scene but was unable to respond due to weather conditions. Jacob was transported to Wayne Hospital and transfered to Miami Valley Hospital by MICU where he was treated and released. ODOT responded to the scene to replace a damaged sign.

The accident remains under investigation by the Darke County Sheriff’s Office.

  1. Just curious why this was reported as an entrapment when the lone occupant was ejected and then crawled back to the vehicle himself?

  2. Probably not uncommon to find real scenarios differing from the way they were dispatched. Whoever called it in, probably didn't know the person was ejected.

  3. Probably to prevent further possible injuries, they didn't take the precautions in removing from the vehicle and something happened, then that would give them an opening for a lawsuit.
