Dana Puterbaugh, account representative for Community Blood Center, Dayton, received the Donor Recruiter of the Year Award from the Association of Donor Recruitment Professionals (ADRP) during its 2012 annual conference in St. Louis, Mo.
In more than 10 years with the Community Blood Center in Dayton, Ohio, Dana Puterbaugh has doubled her collections to more than 5,700 units, advance to a full-time account representative, and now works with more than 65 sponsor groups to accomplish the goals for her more than 130 annual blood drives.
One specific achievement cited by Dana’s colleagues is her creation of specific cycles for people to donate based on geographical areas in her territory. These rotation cycles have been implemented at community drives, high school mobiles, and corporate drives, allowing for a more balanced calendar, as well as an increase in donor retention and frequency. As of 2012, all months are balanced and booked to goal up to two years in advance.
Dana has also spearheaded numerous special projects to help achieve goals, such as T-Shirt Day at the Darke County Fair, community awareness programs, award programs and various community events. In the last five years, Dana has exceeded all of her annual goals, even hitting as high as 18 percent over in 2009. In 2011, 13 percent of the eligible population participated in blood drive programs created by Dana.
Dana is strategic in her approach to creating donation cycles, hosting drives in certain locations, targeting across generations, connecting with particular sponsor groups, networking within her county, and creating programs specific to her territory and target audience. She has added to the professionalism of donor recruitment by approaching and tackling her goals and responsibilities with grace and tenacity.
ADRP is an international organization that has been dedicated to the donor recruitment profession for 34 years. Its members come from countries around the globe, including Canada, Scotland, Finland, Brazil, South Africa, Nigeria, New Zealand, and the United States. Led by its Executive Committee and Board of Directors, ADRP provides education, development and resources for the donor recruitment profession.
It is estimated that every two seconds someone in the United States needs blood. Blood donors are the only source of blood for transfusion. Recruitment professionals play an important role in encouraging individuals to make giving blood a regular part of their lives. One unit of blood can save up to three lives. To donate blood, one must be healthy, and meet age, weight and other donor requirements.
The Association of Donor Recruitment Professionals (ADRP) is committed to being a leader in providing education, development and resources for the donor recruitment profession and is the only organization devoted exclusively to donor recruitment as a profession.
The Donor Recruiter of the Year Award was established to recognize an outstanding donor recruiter in the blood banking industry. The Board of Directors chose to add to the growth and professionalism of ADRP by recognizing the donor recruiter, the heart of the organization.
