Ted Abney, owner of Bistro Off Broadway, presents a scholarship check to Bob Robinson, Senior Scribes Scholarship Fund Committee member.
Ted Abney, owner of Bistro Off Broadway, has joined with the Senior Scribes Scholarship Fund to offer an annual “Bistro Off Broadway Scholarship for Academic Excellence” to county teens with superior academic records and a need for scholarship aid to the university of their choice.
His first check will be awarded soon to a local teen, and he intends to participate in the SSSF Annual Awards Banquet in the future. Awards are typically presented each year in late April or early May.
The Bistro Off Broadway, on Fifth Street in Greenville, is one of Darke County’s premier dining establishments and its owner has been heavily involved in community service and support. While Abney has placed no restrictions on the scholarship, other than academics, his plan is to provide aid to 4H students in the future.
“I work with a lot of the 4H kids and there is definitely a need there,” he said.
The Senior Scribes Scholarship Fund will be providing $7,000 in scholarships to deserving teens this year through local businesses and individuals, and its fundraising programs. It has provided over $19,000 in scholarships since its inception in 2009.
Bistro Off Broadway is the third entity to establish an Academic Scholarship for local teens. Also participating in the program are Debbie and Darrell Biddlestone with their “Fred Wright Memorial Scholarship,” and Delbert and Louise Blickenstaff.
