Dreamers, star gazers and sleepy heads are encouraged to DREAM BIG- READ at New Madison Public Library when the Summer Reading Program begins Monday, June 18th! Participants will be required to read 20 picture books or 400 chapter book pages in order to complete the program and enter the grand prize drawing. As an incentive to keep kids reading, a small prize will be given for every 5 books or 100 pages read. Small prizes include t-shirts, free ice cream from the Snack Shop and a star-shaped pencil. The program is open to kids of all ages, from those who enjoy listening to stories up to age 18.
DREAM BIG- READ will kick-off on Monday, June 18 at 6:30 p.m. with a Pajama Party. Kids (and adults) are encouraged to come in their pajamas and enjoy popcorn and bedtime stories with the library staff. On Thursday, June 21 at 4:30 p.m., Madame Zora will make a return visit to the library. She will share information on the summer solstice and the meaning behind some very common dreams. An astronomer from Boonshoft Museum will present a nighttime star gazer program on Monday, June 25 at 8 p.m. (rain date June 26 at 8 p.m.) Younger children who share bedtime stories with a little critter will enjoy a stuffed animal sleepover on Tuesday, July 17 at 6:30 p.m. Sorry, parents, only the stuffed animals get to spend the night at the library, but everyone is encouraged to come in their pajamas!
Children of all ages will enjoy exploring DREAM JOBS with local business owners and community volunteers on Monday, July 23 at 6 p.m. Dreams (and various seeds) will be planted at a Garden Tea Party on Wednesday, August 1 at 3:30 p.m. The summer fun will come to a close on Friday, August 3 at 4:30 p.m. with hot dogs and s’mores around the library’s fire pit. All events are free and open to the public. The Summer Reading Program runs through August 4.
The library is located at 142 South Main in New Madison. For more information about any of these Summer Reading Program activities, call 937-996-1741 or visit the library online at www.newmadisonpubliclibrary.org.
