Local Historic Church to Host Homecoming

As the crickets herald the end of summer and autumn grows closer it is time to once again make plans for our annual Homecoming at St. Peter’s Evangelical Lutheran Church located between Versailles and Webster off of State Route 185 on St. Peter’s Road. Since its closing in 1905 people have been coming home on the third Sunday of September and this year will be no different.

Trustees have plans well underway for another glorious reunion with family and friends, new and old. On Sunday September 16th at 12:30 a delicious picnic lunch from Jay’s Country Store (fried chicken, potato salad, baked beans, cole slaw, peach cobbler and beverage) like Grandma fixed for many church gatherings will be served at the cost of $12.00 each with reservation due no later than September 7, 2012. The early afternoon will feature the lively music of days gone by Joseph Helfrick (“Simply Joseph”) on the lawn. Master storyteller Chris Supinger will be on hand to enliven even further the stories told round the old fire circle. At 2:30 p.m. the afternoon Hymn Sing and worship hour will take place with Reverend Bob Akins, Pastor of Friedens and Trinity of Versailles leading our worship. We also look forward to the St. John Lutheran Choir from Greenville leading our music.

After worship, linger awhile and wander through the cemetery, really look at the church and take time to reflect on the legacy we have been left.

Please RSVP now for dinner by sending checks made payable to St. Peter’s Lutheran Church for $12.00 for each ticket and mail to Richard Shumaker at 5958 Children’s Home- Bradford Road, Greenville, Ohio 45331 If you are unable to come, but would still like to continue in St. Peter’s preservation, checks should be sent to James Kelch at 176 Kathline Ct. Versailles, Ohio 45380.

We look forward to welcoming you home once again to historic St. Peter’s where everyone is welcome!
