Garst Museum Presents a Free Program on the Battles of the Wabash and Fallen Timbers

Fallen Timbers 1794: The U. S. Army’s First Victory.

In 1791, the United States Army was soundly defeated in the Battle of the Wabash. The defeat was such a complete disaster that George Washington knew he needed to establish a totally new post-revolutionary army. To accomplish this task, Washington turned to one of his Revolutionary War commanders widely known for his dogged determination and bravery in battle. Major General “Mad” Anthony Wayne was given the task of organizing and training a new army for the United States. Facing a seemingly insurmountable number of problems, Wayne successfully trained his troops and instilled a strict code of discipline. Wayne’s decisive victory at the Battle of Fallen Timbers in 1794 led to the 1795 Treaty of Greene Ville.

In support of his recently released book Fallen Timbers 1794: The U. S. Army’s First Victory, author John Winkler, will discuss the Battles of the Wabash and Fallen Timbers on Sunday, March 17, 2013 at 2:00 PM at the Garst Museum in Greenville, Ohio. The event will feature a book signing. Mr. Winkler is also the author of Wabash 1791: St. Clair’s Defeat and The History of Ohio Law.

Admission to the March 17 program is free and open to the public, however normal admission fees apply to tour the museum. Support for the Garst Lecture Series comes, in part, from the Harry D. Stephens Memorial Trust, Inc.
