Mote & Associates, Inc. held their 10th annual seminar entitled “Show Me the Money” at the Darke County Parks, Shawnee Prairie facility on February 26, 2013. The seminar was presented to local governments, non-profits, and private individuals to help assist, educate, and answer questions regarding various governmental grants and funding opportunities. Attendees received valuable information on existing programs, current updates to those programs, ideas for combining funding sources to accomplish projects, and the importance of planning in this process.

Presentations on a variety of funding programs were given by representatives from the Ohio Development Services Agency, the Ohio EPA, the Ohio Department of Transportation, the Rural Development Division of the United States Department of Agriculture, and the Ohio Public Works Commission. A presentation regarding “green energy” projects that have been successfully completed at Ansonia Local Schools was also introduced. The Ansonia Schools has implemented compressed natural gas conversion of four diesel school buses to cut-down on fuel costs as well as included installation of solar panels on the roof of the facility in an effort to realize a savings in electric. Susan Laux, Grants and Funding Specialist, of Mote & Associates ended the day with a presentation on how to combine the various funding sources discussed to use as matching monies to complete larger projects. This also allows dollars from the local government to leverage other funding so local governments can get more “bang for their buck”. Door prizes were awarded to three lucky attendees at the end of the day.

In recognition of National Engineer’s Week which was February 17–23, 2013, engineers from Mote & Associates, Inc. mentored the Greenville High School Engineering Tech Prep Class (a basic engineering program for juniors and seniors). Then they served as judges in the annual “Engineer’s Week Challenge” of the design and building of a boom crane by 14 different teams of students in the class. The winners of the “Engineer’s Week Challenge” (students Tommy Jenkins & Reece Jones) and their teacher, Mr. Chris Sykes, were given awards at the seminar.
