Students and Community "Light Up the Night" for Corynna Strawser

Photos by Chris Norris.

A fundraiser for the family of Corynna Strawser was held on Saturday night, May 11th, in the Greenville City Park. Individuals donated money to sponsor paper lotus flowers that were then placed in a pond in the park carrying a small candle. A huge crowd gathered to see the beautiful sight, but more importantly to offer support to Corynna and her family. The event was coordinated by Mark Koontz and many GHS students.

Corynna suffers from an incurable disease and uses a wheel chair for mobility. The funds from this event will help fund the "Building Corynna's Room" project, a community sourced and funded project to build an addition to the Strawser's home in Greenville, adding a bedroom and bathroom on the ground floor for Corynna. Currently, her bedroom is upstairs, requiring one of her parents to carry her up and down the stairs as necessary. This project will allow Corynna to stay on the first floor and be able to spend more time with her family by being able to move around much more freely.

Update on the building process:

Excavation for Corynna’s Room started Tuesday, May 7th. Myers Excavating teamed up with METCON to get the footers and foundation walls dug and the concrete poured. The concrete is being provided by PEPCON. All of this work and materials are being donated. Please support these generous local companies. Framing started on May 13th and we expect the framing completed and get the roof on by the end of the week.

Please consider making a donation to the Courage for Corynna account at Greenville Federal Savings and Loan to assist in making the project a reality for Corynna.
