OSU Alumni Club of Darke County Hosts High School Counselors

Counselors from Darke County high schools gathered at Montage on Tuesday, September 3rd to get the latest information about entrance requirements for The Ohio State University Freshman for the coming year. The luncheon and event were sponsored by the OSU Alumni Club of Darke County.

The luncheon, which have been an annual affair for twenty years, provided area counselors with a chance to compare their school first days as well as gain information that would benefit this year’s seniors as they apply to the colleges of their choice. Dan Pohl, admissions counselor and staff assistant for the University gave important updates about the application process. Some of the information the counselors received would generally apply to most colleges but counselors were also given instructions specific to Ohio State.

An interesting note about the application process that has been available for several years now is that no longer is a hard copy necessary for a student to apply to the University. As in many other areas of life, computers offer a quick, electronic way to transmit all the documents and information needed for an application. Students can even check on line as to whether their application was accepted.

The completed application and all reuired materials, including test scores, letters of recommendation and transcripts are due by November 1. As has been the requirement for several years now, a accompanying essay is an important part of the application and really can carry weight as to the acceptance or rejection of the application.

Students who are not accepted for the main campus in Columbus are usually accepted for enrollment at a regional campus. Many of the students from this area enroll at the Lima campus of OSU, do well for a year there and then reapply for the main campus with likely acceptance there.

The local OSU Alumni Club looks forward each year to hosting the area counselors at a luncheon. And, the University is happy to send representatives to meet with the counselors, not only to update application requirements, but also to answer the many questions that counselors and students have about Ohio State and campus life there.
