Arcanum Lion’s Club just took Lionism one step further than normal with a fund raiser within their membership to be used for a designated local. The annual Colossal Pie Auction was held at the Appreciation to the Lion’s Wives Dinner on Oct. 17th for their hours of volunteerism at the gate the club maintains at the Darke County Fair.

A variety of pies including the popular pumpkin, black raspberry and apple were auctioned along with apple fritters, cream scones and cookies all donated by Lion Winston Brumbaugh, owner of Brumbaugh’s Fruit Farm and Bakery.

Lion Dick Troutwine served as auctioneer with his two assistants Lion Jason Stephan and Lion Jim Gray.
The trio made for a fun evening urging bidders to go higher and higher. Auctioned items received bids ranging from $25 to $130.

This year’s recipient of the sizeable proceeds of nearly $1,000.00 goes to local Arcanum resident Curtis Miller. Mr. Miller is waiting a double organ transplant.

Lion President Matt Huffman thanked Brumbaugh’s Bakery for the donation of the items for the auction and to the membership for emptying out their pockets to win their bids and to others who simply made donations to the cause to help round out the proceeds.
