DC Elite 99 played Grand Lake United at home on Friday night. It was a great night for a soccer game. DC started where they left off on Sunday against the United team, with lots of possession and great build up from the back and ball movement through the mid field.
The Elite scored their first goal from a great 1-2 play from mid field to corner flag and a one touch cross from Bryden Diceanu away from goal where Kyle Ressler was waiting to one touch and finish. The second goal came 5 minutes from half time with a ball slipped through defenders from Sam Boston toward outside where Tani Mancillas dribbled to goal line beating 2 defenders and shot across goal to far side net. At half time DC was in control and up 2 goals to 0.
The second half was a different story. Grand Lake came out to play with a formation change. They pressured high on DC's defense and found one of their own in front of goal where they scored and boosted their confidence. With starting goal keeper Cole McGlinch out due to injury, Addison Ernst, the back up keeper, did a great job of blocking a few shots from Grand Lake. DC tried to regain composure and did so to held on to win 2-1 and remain undefeated. The win also allowed them to jump into first place in league play.
With three games remaining and a tough Warrior tournament coming up DC still have a lot of work to do.
