Mercer County Sheriff Announces Grant to Target Problem Traffic Areas and Events

Mercer County Sheriff Jeff Grey announced today that his office was awarded a High Visibility Enforcement Traffic Overtime Grant by the Ohio Department of Public Safety. The grant will be used to target problem traffic areas throughout Mercer County.

The grant award was over $22,700. The grant will be used for specific events that have higher opportunity for traffic crashes. Additional deputies will be assigned to work targeted areas on Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year’s, and the Super Bowl.

“This grant allows overtime for specific holidays and events that people tend to celebrate with the use of alcohol,” stated Sheriff Grey. “The goal is to keep the motoring public safe, not to ruin a celebration. By being visible with additional deputies, hopefully it will be a deterrent to poor driving behavior and, if not, deputies will be available to take enforcement action.”
