MVCTC Criminal Justice Program

The Miami Valley Career Technology Center (MVCTC) Criminal Justice program teaches report writing, patrol techniques, Ohio Revised Code, evidence collection, traffic stops, building searches, private security, and forensic science. This program also allows students to earn several certifications as a high school student, including Dispatch, Armanment Systems and Procedures (ASP); Oleoresin Capsicum Spray (OC); and First Aid/CPR. The program is a semi-military program that requires students to wear uniforms, and includes a physical workout as part of the daily schedule. The program is devoted to teaching patience, respect, and furthering student's education.

After completing the MVCTC Criminal Justice program, students go on to work at security companies or local sheriff/police departments as dispatchers or corrections officers. Other students choose to continue their education at post-secondary institutions or join the military.

Over the past few years, the Criminal Justice program has shown very strong data to support the level of academic challenge provided to their students. On average, 46 students are enrolled in the program each school year.


Based on the 2011 follow-up date (the most recent reported by the state), 90% of MVCTC Criminal Justice students were employed, in the military, or enrolled in college or advanced training after leaving MVCTC. This program also reported 100% technical skill attainment, completion of the program, and academic attainment in math, reading, and science.

After earning college credits at MVCTC, I realize all of the college opportunities I know have as well. After I graduate from MVCTC, I can use my Tech Prep Scholarship to Sinclair Community college and work towards becoming a corrections officer or attend the Police Academy.”
