Monday, November 25th is Mitochondrial Disease Awareness Day

Corynna Strawser and her quest to raise awareness of the disease that has left her mostly bedridden and in hospice care has been the subject of several posts here in the past (including several updates on this summer's community driven effort to build an addition to the Strawser home to allow Corynna a much easier quality of life and the life review video State of the Heart Hospice recently helped her produce). The 16 year old Greenville girl is fighting the disease courageously and has devoted herself to raising awareness of it at every given opportunity and has recently been the subject of articles in several publications. Her mother and father, Kristi and Sean Strawser, have a facebook page, "Courage for Corynna," where they regularly post updates on Corynna's battle, as well as the many avenues she has sought to spread awareness (if you aren't one of the 3,000+ people who have already done so, go give it a "like" now).

In a partnership with Cavalier Clothing, folks all over the county (and beyond) have obtained Courage for Corynna t shirts, to be worn in force on Monday, November 25th, a day that the Darke County Commissioners recently proclaimed as Mitochondrial Disease Awareness Day (T Shirts are still available at Cavalier Clothing on Broadway in Greenville!). WHIO's Steve Baker was at the Strawser home as the Commissioners signed the proclamation and presented it to Corynna. Click on the image below to watch his report...

...but most importantly, please pray or send good thoughts to the Strawsers as they appear to be nearing the last parts of this journey. Corynna and her family have brought many members of the community together throughout their struggles and have taught many lessons in love, compassion, caring, sacrifice, selflessness, strength, and courage to countless people, most of whom they likely do not and will not ever know. They deserve every ounce of the rallying that is happening right now and to know that Corynna's legacy of bravery and love is immortal.
