State of the Heart Hospice will hold the nonprofit agency’s first ever 5K on Saturday, February 15 at Rossburg Acres which is just west of Rossburg , at 4300 Rossburg Lightsville Rd. Proceeds from the “Heart and Sole 5K” will be used to provide support to the agency’s new care center on the fourth floor of Wayne HealthCare in Greenville. Registration is at 7:30 a.m., with the race starting at 9 a.m.

“We wanted an event that would be something which is of interest to a large group of people in all of the counties we serve,” explained Christy Baker, Development Specialist for State of the Heart and event organizer. Rossburg Acres is centrally located and will provide a location that will allow participants from all areas to participate in, she added.

The presenting sponsor for the fund raising event is Preferred Insurance Center of Coldwater. State of the Heart has partnered with Preferred on other fund raising projects. “We are delighted that they are the presenting sponsor for this exciting new event for our agency,” Baker said.

Matt House, Marketing Manager for Preferred Insurance Center, said, “We are always looking to show any kind of support we can for charities such s State of the Heart Hospice. Furthermore, there are a number of people who work in our office who are passionate about running, so teaming up with this wonderful event is extremely exciting for us.”

With offices in Greenville, Coldwater and Portland, State of the Heart cares for patients and families in eastern Indiana and western Ohio who are confronting a life limiting illness. Patients in the entire service area can use the care center in Greenville, Baker explained.

“The Heart and Sole 5K will have a Valentine theme seeing that it takes place the day after Valentine’s Day,” she stated. “We have some great ‘perks’ for those participating,” she added. “There will be cash prizes to the top three overall male/female finishers, custom medals for the top three male/female finishers in each age division, a chocolate stop on the course, long-sleeve tech shirts, and post-race refreshments, including hot chocolate”

The event is open to both runners and walkers, and strollers are also welcome. The cost to participate is $25 with the shirt, or if you do not want the shirt, the cost is $15 if registered prior to January 31st. You can find registration forms to mail in and they are available by clicking here.
