Governor Kasich Appoints Mehaffie to Ohio Arts Council Board Members

by Elizabeth Weinstein

Governor John Kasich has appointed Darryl D. Mehaffie, of Greenville, and Neal F. Zimmers, of Dublin, to the Ohio Arts Council board. Mr. Mehaffie and Mr. Zimmers' terms will end on July 1, 2018.

"I am very happy to welcome Neal back to the OAC. His past experience on the OAC board will be critical as the agency navigates leadership change over the next several months," said Julie Henahan, executive director of the OAC. "I also want to welcome Mr. Mehaffie. His deep experience as a teacher and a board member of the Darke County Center for the Arts will be an invaluable addition to the OAC board."

Mr. Mehaffie is a retired school teacher who taught fifth and sixth grade at Northmont City Schools, in Englewood, Ohio, from 1966-1996. Mr. Mehaffie is currently on the Edison Community College Board of Trustees. In January he was appointed to the State Board of Education by Governor Kasich as a member-at-large. He also sits on the board for the Darke County Center for the Arts and is the past chairman of that board. Mr. Mehaffie has been a very active member of his community, both locally and at the state level.

Mr. Zimmers is president of NFZ & Associates, a governmental affairs consulting company, and is a former OAC board member who served from 2004 to 2009. During 20 years as a state senator, he chaired several committees and served a term as president pro tem. A strong supporter of the arts and an advocate of their value to society, Zimmers currently serves as a member of the Granville Arts Commission and is a director of the Eichelberger Foundation, which has provided more than one million dollars to Dayton area arts and cultural organizations in recent years.

"An accomplished educator and a seasoned former council member will add great diversity of knowledge and experience to our outstanding council," said OAC board chair Jeffrey A. Rich.
