Miami County Coroner Steve Huffman announces run for Ohio House seat in Republican Primary

Stephen A. Huffman is announcing his intention to run for the Ohio House of Representatives 80th district in the Republican primary election being held on May 6, 2014.

The seat is currently held by Richard Adams who, last week, announced his retirement at the end of this term.

Huffman currently serves in his first term as Miami County Coroner and is a physician and shareholder with Premier Health Care Services.

“Dick Adams has served this district with distinction during his 3 terms representing us in Columbus. I thank him for his service to our district and wish Dick and his wife Sandy well in this new stage of their lives. As this District’s next State Representative I will continue the long history of fiscally conservative service to its constituents.” Huffman said.

Huffman stated, “My focus for this campaign and when elected is simple. Work every day to make Ohio and our communities attractive to employers to stimulate job growth, to make sure our schools receive their fair share of the state’s education dollars and that they are spent in the our classrooms and to use my unique experience to find common sense answers to our complicated health care system and our State’s escalating Medicare costs.”

Huffman continued, “Under Republican leadership Ohio has made positive strides over the past 3 years. Our economy is moving in a positive direction. Real job growth has happened in our region. Tax dollars are being given back to our citizens and small business owners and an 8 billion dollar budget hole was fixed without raising taxes.”

“Even with Ohio’s economy improving many families and small businesses are still struggling to make ends meet. To ensure we stay on the upward economic path we must be committed to practicing fiscal discipline in our spending policies in Columbus. When elected the taxpayers of this district can rest assured that I will work every day to reduce the size of government and make the tough decisions that need to be made.”

“I look forward to the campaign trail where we can meet the citizens of the district to introduce myself and my vision for Ohio and the 80th House District.”

Huffman received his medical degree from the Medical College of Ohio in 1992 and a bachelors of arts degree from the University Toledo in 1988 where he was also a 3-year starter for the Rockets football team. Huffman is a 1983 graduate of Milton-Union High School.

During his career Steve Huffman has volunteered on medical missions where he treated the underserved in St. Lucia, Queensland, Australia, Bahamas, St. Croix, St. Thomas, Belize, Guatemala, Cameron, Jamaica and Dominican Republic.

Steve Huffman resides in Tipp City Ohio with his wife Kathryn and their five children.

The 80th House District includes all of Miami County and the southern portion of Darke County.
