Grief Support Groups Set To Start Tuesday, January 21 at Versailles Health Care Center

A series of grief support groups that was to have started earlier in January will have the first meeting on Tuesday, January 21 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Versailles Health Care Center, 200 Marker Rd. in Versailles. The initial session was rescheduled because of inclement weather. The first session will focus on “Post Holiday Grief.” Through a collaborative effort, State of the Heart Hospice bereavement team members will conduct the sessions which are free and open to anyone needing support regardless of association with the health care center or State of the Heart.

Bereavement support is an important part of the care provided by State of the Heart. The nonprofit agency routinely schedules grief support groups throughout the year at its offices in Greenville, Coldwater and Portland. Staff at Versailles Health Care Center, well known for its rehabilitation care of long term residents, recognizes the need for grief support in the community and surrounding areas.

This year, there will be a series of grief support groups, called “Healthy Grieving,” held at the health care center. The quarterly series will continue on March 18 with a session on “Spirituality and Grief.” On June 17, the series topic will be “Feelings and Grief,” and on September 16, the topic will be “Memorializing Your Loved One.” The final session will be held December 16 and will focus on “Holiday Grief Support.” All sessions are from 6:30 to 7:30 in the evening and are held at the health care center.

Hospice bereavement specialists will facilitate all of the sessions. Jackie McEldowney, a Licensed Social Worker with Versailles Health Care Center will be in attendance and will assist the hospice team when needed.
