TACKLING HUNGER TOGETHER

Thrivent Financial and First Universalist Church of New Madison have joined forces to tackle hunger and need in Darke county through the Souper Bowl of Caring. More than twenty years ago, the Souper Bowl of Caring began, and since that day more than 90 million dollars has been raised for local charities across the country through Souper Bowl of Caring. It has become a powerful movement that is transforming Super Bowl weekend into the nation’s largest celebration of sharing, caring, and serving communities across America. First Universalist will be working to collect food and funds for FISH Choice Pantry of Darke County, with Thrivent Financial helping with matching funds from their Care Abounds in Community program. In 2013, FISH served over 2,900 families (9,433 individuals) and made 320 home deliveries helping those in need.

First Universalist Church of New Madison is a vital congregation with many philanthropic projects. The church collects shoes for Africa, eyeglasses for the Lions Club, provides scholarship funding for Mexican “children of the dump,” mittens for the Mitten Tree, collects greeting cards for use by St. Jude’s Children’s Ranch, has been generous in support of New Orleans, Haiti, the Philippines, tornado stricken areas, and FISH Choice Pantry. First Universalist is honored to join Thrivent Financial to tackle hunger locally, and has chosen FISH Choice Pantry as the beneficiary of food and funds collected on Sunday, February 2 during a Souper Bowl of Caring luncheon and celebration at the church following the 10:00 morning service.

Thrivent Financial is a century old Fortune 500 Financial Service organization supporting the values of faith, family, stewardship and service. Thrivent is proud to support and join First Universalist in helping our Darke County neighbors through FISH Choice Pantry.
