WHIO: Woman Accused of Striking Arcanum Student Who Was Walking to School Arraigned on Unrelated Charges

WHIO reports that 24 year old Billie Skeens of Houston, the woman who is accused of striking an Arcanum student with her car in front of the school, appeared in Miami County Court this morning on unrelated traffic charges.

Skeens was arraigned on charges of driving under suspension and marked lane changes. She had previously failed to appear in court, but turned herself into authorities after a warrant was issued for her arrest. The judge set her bond at $5,000 and placed her on house arrest, in addition to having to physically remove the license plates from her car and hand them to the judge.

Skeens will face charges in Darke County related to the Arcanum incident, including reckless operation, driving under suspension and failure to yield to a pedestrian on a crosswalk. That incident injured a middle school Arcanum student, which included skull fractures and a stay in the ICU, according to the the girl's grandmother.
