Brethren Retirement Community Kitchen Tour - One BUSY Place!
It is said that kitchen is the heart of the home… and that holds true here at Brethren Retirement Community! Located between our Main Dining Room and The Chestnut Café, our commercial kitchen is one busy place!
Recently, Mike Randolph, our Director of Dining Services, organized a kitchen tour for interested residents who wanted to see where their food is prepared. In addition to showing them the commercial refrigerators, stoves, ovens and other tools needed to prepare and serve meals for our residents and staff, he shared some interesting facts with them.
We serve approximately 900 meals a day - 325,000 meals a year. When we make our homemade soup, we prepare 35 gallons of it at a time. Our meat loaf recipe uses 60 pounds of ground beef and pork and we spend approximately $1,000 in milk in any given week.
If you’re wondering how many people it takes to prepare the meals for our residents and staff, Dining Services has 61 employees. Our Dining Services employee with the most seniority has been here 40 years!
Serving meals has it own set of challenges as we serve meals in 9 different dining rooms and do around $100,000 of catering each year!
If you’re looking for a great meal at great price, plan to eat in our Chestnut Café – it’s open to the public and offers a wide variety of entrees!
