Two Injured in Head on Collision on 49 Near Arcanum

Arcanum - On March 19, 2014 at approximately 12:42 p.m. Darke County Deputies, along with Pitsburg Fire and Arcanum Rescue were dispatched to the 2100 block of SR 49 in reference to a two vehicle head-on crash. Mutual aid was requested from Greenville Township Rescue and Tri-Village Rescue.

Preliminary investigation revealed that a 2002 Jeep, driven by Michael C. Adkins (23) of Greenville, was southbound on SR49 just north of Meadow Lane, when he attempted to pass several vehicles. Adkins was still in the left lane when he was coming up on a 2013 Ford van, driven by Michael E. Wysong (52) of New Lebanon, who was northbound on SR49. Wysong attempted to swerve to the right side of the road to miss Adkins’ vehicle, but both vehicle’s struck head on, off the east side of the road.

Adkins was treated by Arcanum Rescue and was transported to Miami Valley Hospital with a serious injury. Wysong was treated by Pitsburg Fire and Greenville Rescue. Greenville Township Rescue transported Wysong to Wayne Hospital. Wysong’s condition is unknown at this time.

This accident remains under investigation by the Darke County Sheriff’s Office. Charges are pending in this accident.
