Western Ohio Fracking Awareness Coalition (WOFAC) is holding a Town Hall meeting on Tuesday, April 15, in Memorial Hall from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m.
A panel of experts from around the country will discuss the hotly debated topic of the dangers of hydraulic fracturing waste as well as claims made by the oil and gas industry, which assert the safety and economic benefits of hydraulic fracturing, also known as fracking. The featured speakers have backgrounds in medicine, water safety, the law and drilling, and are not only highly respected in their fields but have also experienced "first hand" the environmental impact and physical harm that fracking can and has caused in Ohio and throughout the United States.
WOFAC is a non-partisan, grass roots, self-funded group that is committed to educating the community on the subject of toxic fracking waste and the effect that the oil and gas industry has on Western Ohio. The impact to our area would be by accepting toxic waste into injection wells or landfills. Locally, we are currently impacted in Darke County by the construction of a new, experimental bi-directional pipeline to move natural shale gas from Eastern Ohio through Western Ohio to feed a larger network of pipelines for the eventual exportation of the gas.
WOFAC is dedicated to preserving the safety of our region’s clean water, soil and air and to protecting the health and environment of all residents, now and in the future.
WOFAC's meeting is free and open to the public, everyone is welcome, and all questions will be heard and answered.
Darke County residents, or anyone with an interest in this subject, will be allowed the opportunity to learn and to express their opinion at this forum.
