2014 Friend of MVCTC Award recipient was Mr. Wim Huijs, President of Enginetics Aerospace. |
Mr. Huijs began his career in engineering with Eldim – a Dutch machining company that served OEM engine and gas turbine manufacturers. He originally came to the United States in 1998 as a Unigraphics expert and Engineering Manager for McSwain Manufacturing (a division of Heroux-Devtek). Mr. Huijs was then hired by Douglas Machine as Program Manager for NPI projects. After Douglas’ acquisition by Turbo Combustor Technologies (“TCT”), he was promoted to General Manager of Douglas Machine with additional international responsibility for TCT/Douglas’ Budapest operations. After his tenure with Douglas Machine, Mr. Huijs moved to Smiths Aerospace as manager of International Sales for Smiths Engine Components in Asheville, NC. Within two weeks, Smiths Engine Components was acquired by GE Aviation and Mr. Huijs was transferred to Unison Engine Components-Manchester CT as Director of Sales and Marketing. After two years at Unison, Mr. Huijs was brought in to Enginetics as President in February 2009 and made CEO in May 2010 managing the business for Morgenthaler Private Equity. On September 4th 2014 Enginetics Aerospace was acquired by Standex International Corp. Mr. Huijs will stay on board as the President of Enginetics Aerospace.
Mr. Huijs was nominated for the “2014 Friend of MVCTC Award” for his continued support of the MVCTC mission to provide premier educational choices and advanced employment preparation for youth, adults, and organizations of the Miami Valley. Mr. Huijs has hired MVCTC graduates at Enginetics Aerospace and continues to help encourage students to consider a career in the high-demand field of manufacturing. He is an advocate for career technical education in our schools and the value it can bring to both young people and adults.
The evening also included a district update by Dr. Weldy and the opportunity for the 300 plus business partners to meet with MVCTC staff. During the program advisory committee meetings, business partners, employers, alumni, students and parents worked with the Career Technical instructors to guarantee what is being taught at MVCTC is what students will need to know to be successful in their chosen careers.
