Special events are the number one reason people travel in Ohio.
This year’s winner is a small non-profit exceptional group of organizers with HUGE hearts, extraordinary passion, and a longtime dream! This group brought in over a million in tourism dollars and thousands of visitor’s to our area for a 1 day event, and accomplished this in its very first year!
The planning of this dream has been a long & tough road for this tireless group… Some people didn’t believe they could actually pull this off, locals & law officials had their doubts & concerns… so many just didn’t know what to expect...the unknown scares people, but this dedicated group didn’t listen to the naysayers & non-believers… they stayed true to their dream… weathered through the storm…and truly worked around the clock to give Auglaize & Mercer counties an awesome inaugural event they would never forget!
This dedicated group promotes and organizes cycling, running and multisport events, and is made up of strong athletes known for putting on the highest quality sporting events around the area like the Donut Dash, Tour De Donut, and new this year… The Shawshank Hustle, as well as many more fun & exciting events throughout the year.
This group was also recognized & honored by Sports Management Magazine and presented the Reader’s Choice Award for “Stand Out Events” for 2015.
It is my pleasure to announce the Auglaize & Mercer Counties Convention & Visitors Bureau Stahr Award winner for 2014….Congratulations & Thank you Grand Lake Marathon & Rocketship Sports !!! You deserve this… and we are looking forward to the (2015) Grand Lake Marathon!!!
