The Fort GreeneVille Chapter nominates retired Chief Warrant Officer 2nd Class (CW2) Pamela Carpenter Summers for the 2016 Outstanding Woman Award - Women in American History.

Summers, a 1973 Greenville High School graduate, distinguished herself by serving in the United States Army for eight years (1973to 1981). During her time of service in the Army she was awarded the National Defense Ribbon, the Good Conduct, Army Commendation and Korean Defense Service medals. Furthermore, she was one of thirteen women who were hand selected to attend the United States Army's Flight School where she was trained to fly Huey helicopters.

After Summers separated from the Army in 1981, she obtained her civilian helicopter's license and ultimately became the first female to fly the Boeing’s AH-64 Apache Attack helicopter.
