Passenger Airlifted After New Year's Day Crash

On January 1, 2017 at 9:58 p.m. Darke County Deputies, along with Laura Fire and Arcanum Rescue were dispatch to the intersection of SR571 and Delisle Fourman Rd. reference a two vehicle injury accident. Mutual aid was requested from Greenville Township Rescue and Union Township Rescue.

Preliminary investigation revealed that a 1997 Ford Expedition driven by, Chad Pierce (27) of Arcanum was heading northwest on SR571. Pierce attempted to make a left turn on to Delisle Fourman Rd. when he was struck by a 2005 Toyota Camry driven by, Brandon Ervin (23) of Tipp City, which was heading southeast on SR571. Kelsey Tester (22) of Greenville was a front seat passenger in Ervin’s vehicle.

Pierce and Ervin were both treated at the scene by members from Arcanum Rescue and Union Township Rescue and were transported to Miami Valley Hospital by CareFlight. Tester was treated by Arcanum Rescue and was transported by ground by Greenville Township Rescue to meet Miami Valley Hospital’s MICU, which finished transporting Tester to Miami Valley Hospital.

Ervin and Tester had a canine in their vehicle that was also injured from the accident. The Darke County Humane Society responded to the scene to take custody of the canine to transport it for medical care.

At this time the condition of the occupants from both vehicles is unknown. This accident remains under investigation by the Darke County Sheriff’s Office.
