As confirmed by a school district official, who wrote by email that the GWOC formally accepted Greenville in a vote a little after 10am this morning. A formal announcement will take place tonight at the Fall Sports Award Banquet in the high school gymnasium at 7pm. GWOC Commissioner Eric Spahr is expected to speak at approximately 7:30pm.
From the school official: "A full gym would be a great sign to the GWOC of the type of community support our athletic programs receive."
The GWOC will now reportedly have 18 teams - and Greenville will become part of the 6-team northern division.
This is great news for the athletes of our district - job well done by administration to make this happen.
ReplyDeleteGreat job to our coacing staff who compete with these schools and have developed a good reputation with the opposing coaches.
ReplyDeleteIt's about time. Losing its spot in a conference was an incredible gaff that can finally be placed behind us.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations to all involved in making this happen! This is a big win for the school!
ReplyDeleteYeah great new! How many jobs come along with it.Why can't we get excited for any company that want's to bring jobs here.
ReplyDeleteThe government of the City does a great job of discouraging any and all new business.
ReplyDeleteLet's "stay on point" and relish in this good news.
ReplyDeleteThis "good news" is a mute point since the Greenville School District is the one who went out to find "greener pastures" in another division. It is a shame the athletes were the ones who were the one to suffer.
ReplyDeleteGreat news for Greenville's student athletes! This is the way it should have stayed. Good job to those who helped right this wrong!!!
ReplyDeleteGreenville never was, and probably still won't be, all that competitive in the GWOC (formerly GMVC) in probably 3/4 of the sports, likely more. However, it is really the only existing conference that fits with the locale and school size, so getting back in was really a "no-brainer".
ReplyDeleteBeing competitive starts with a good attitude.
ReplyDeletefinally a chance for the Greenville athletes to get some league recognition for their efforts. Yes, there may some major losses to some of the teams in this league, much like before, but you won't get better by playing weaker opponents.
ReplyDeleteNow we are in a league - lets get good coaches and not settle for anything less!
ReplyDeleteHopefully the powers that be have learned from their mistake and wont let this happen again. The choice to jump ship in the first place was a poor and irresponsible choice and the students suffered from this. Glad to see Greenville back in a conference.
