  2. Curious, 12:38. Where did you attend school? And, who paid for it?

  3. What a shame, however I’m sure we will see more and more of this. For the life of me I don’t know why the President, Congressmen & Senators haven’t been working on our “Job” problem instead of worrying about more entitlement programs like this new ObamaCare they just passed.

  4. Actually 2:34, I don't see how knowing that would make you any smarter.

  5. I guess I am confused, this is a service based industry job, if people have the money to get things painted they hire them to paint it. This is just another example of an economy based on service. This will only thrive when there is cash flow. I hear newstalk all the time saying tax cuts generate jobs, what generate jobs is making a product that has a demand that you get money for, so people can afford services, it doesn't work the other way.

  6. This company, like GTI and Whirlpool use a large number of temporaries and they have a constant revolving door. Workers go in hoping to get hired if they prove themselves only to be sent home at the point they should have been hired. Perhaps there is a tax break for "hiring" and they have found the loophole. They pay $8 an hour and no benefits. Should we be delighted to have a business that is pillaging our community? Without solid employment, citizens cannot buy a home, a car, support charities or any of the things that make them good citizens. These employers represent poverty.

  7. ....and with the health care reforms coming, at least these 66 who are actually trying to make a living will at least be able to maintain some sort of insurance, even when laid off.

  8. 5:07, I asked the question b/c someone paid for the school he attended and it wasn't him. He made a joke about the loss of jobs despite the new school. So, I assume he's doesn't support a new school. Nearly all of you no votes were more than happy to take others' charity when you went to school but can't find it in your heart (or your wallet) to give someone else the chance you were given. I am amazed that people don't see that. Someday we will all answer for the choices we make.

  9. March 23, 2010 9:27 PM - this is a company that is part of the production cycle for the manufacture of items, not much different than if was painting a Honda Accord at the plant. Please see: http://productionpaint.com/

I'd think $8 an hour is better than $0 an hour. These could be jobs that are competing against $0.65 per hour wages / fringes.

  10. Nice try 6:46 AM.

The COBRA law allows people to keep their company health insurance plans in certain circumstances (including lay off). It's not new, and has nothing to do with the health care reform act.

  11. Those high paying manufacturing jobs of $18.00 per hour plus benefits are long gone! That’s why General Motors and Chrysler went broke! That’s why all of our manufacturing jobs are leaving the country. The reason these companies use temp help is because they can get by for less labor costs especially the benefits. High wages and heavy regulations put on them are killing our manufacturing jobs in this country. Now they have this ObamaCare is facing them and the un-certainty of the “Cap and Trade” being discussed in Congress. Caterpillar is already saying the ObamaCare is going to cost jobs for them.

Whoever wrote this is an dumbass!!!! Have you ever heard of COBRA. Plus the health care reform doesn't take effect for 4 years. Alot of good that is gonig to do the jobless people now. They would have to pay for cobra or obamacare. I hope Anonymous March 24, 2010 6:46 AM you are not dumb enough to believe that they will get free insurance.

"He is paying for the school or schools, what ever school district he lives in."

  13. Charlie: He is paying to OPERATE the school where he lives (if that), not build it in the first place. That was done by some previous generation that was charitable toward guys like you and him. Charlie, I guarantee you most of who you are is due to the charity of others.

  14. Anonymous March 25, 2010 8:17 AM, your guarantee is worth nothing cause you don't know me. I graduated from Greenville and went into the military. I then went to college and used my GI bill and student loans to pay for my education. I paid back the student loans in full. There was no charity in me getting an education.

  15. If you went to Greenville, someone else paid for the buildings you were educated in. I thank you for your military service.

  16. Hey Charlie,
Thanks for calling me a dumbass.

(To DJ:I can't seem to understand how one person's personal attacks are allowed on this page, but others' are not. I guess it depends on one's political persuasion.)

Yes, I do know about COBRA. And I do know "Obamacare" doesn't go into effect for 4 years. I was using the 66 job loss as an example. If someone in that position is still without a job after 18 months, they and their family are protected.

Charlie, are you OK with COBRA? After all, it's another government program. Hope your day goes a little better. Also, you might want to consider brushing up on your grammar before you post again.

I will brush up on my grammar and you need to learn simple math. 18 months is a year and an half, a far cry from 4 years. How is the HC going to protect them with no job? Do they still have to pay the premium every month for the government HC? Also, you are welcome for calling you a dumbass. I call them like i see them.
