Democrats pass healthcare - forfeit November elections

Discussion?

UPDATE: Our Congressman makes one last plea in vain (below).

UPDATE 2: On the bright side, we're all going to save about $2,500 on our premiums this year.

  1. I'll start out. This is the end of the Democrat party---- mark my words. The whole thing will be circulating in the courts for years, and ALL Democrats will be voted out of office---except the stupid voters in San fransico and boston---who vote for Pelosi and Frank.

  2. The dems will most likely lose the House and Senate and we will have another
impasse where nothing will get done with a dem in the WH.
This will not be the end of the dems, there are still millions of gullible people that will think this was a great idea.

  3. This may cause the implosion of the democratic party I do agree BUT dont be blind to the fact that the Rep party is on its way to division as well. The Rep are dividing over economic choices and religious choices and we need to put aside religion (I realize this opinion will not be popular in darke county) and focus on fixing our nation fiscally.

  4. This is not the end to the Dems at all. Once the Republicans can't accomplish anything with Obama standing in the way in the White House, voters will once again get ticked and start weeding them out. Until I am in charge, the country will be in shambles! :)

  5. I think the Democrats will loose the House & Senate… but I think for the next few elections the Incumbents will continually loose their seats. Time to break up the “Good Ol’ Boy” Club. Time to work for American Citizens, time for the 2 party system to wake up…

  6. I'll take my own poll-is President genuinely attempting to fix our health care system believing he is going to make a difference?
Or, is he just on an ego trip?

I believe I know my results.

  7. Barb, before you make such a sweeping prediction, I suggest you read a little history. Specifically, about the 1936 presidential election when Alf Landon ran against FDR just after SS was passed the year before. The same prediction was made and Alf carried two states.

  8. I could care less about the two idiotic parties and their candidates. I am in mourning for the United States. We are now but a fraction of what we were 50 years ago...now we are government controlled with no hope of recovery. Thanks to the idiots in the House of Representatives and the morons who voted Barack into the presidency.

  9. Remember, people opposed social security, medicare and unemployment .... who would give those up now?

  11. Anonymous March 21, 2010 11:11 PM - Who will give up SS? Those who will never see the return of their money which they were forced to put into a “Trust Fund” which the government has continually raided… Medicare, those who have continually paid into the program and now the government is going to raid that fund to the tune of $500 + billion, in order to fund their health care entitlement program just passed.

  12. Anonymous at 4:08...are you serious? Government now controls your health care..is that not enough? Your premiums are going to go up, quality is going to go down. We have to pay for the healthcare of all illegal aliens. If that is not enough, enjoy your Socialist life.

I do not wish to be a kept citizen, humbled and dulled by having the state look after me. I want to take the calculated risk; to dream and to build, to fail and to succeed. I refuse to barter incentive for a dole. I prefer the challenges of life to the guaranteed existence; the thrill of fulfillment to the stale calm of utopia. I will not trade freedom for beneficence nor my dignity for a handout. I will never cower before any master nor bend to any threat. It is my heritage to stand erect, proud and unafraid; to think and act for myself, enjoy the benefit of my creations, and to face the world boldly and say, this I have done. 15. Welcome to the USSA! Yesterday it still almost looked like America to me, but today when I woke up, I was in a socialist country! I don't believe Dems. are out. I believe that we will have no more elections as we now have a dictatorship that already stated he wouldn't run in 2012. This is why. He won't have to. Welome to the Barry Soreto world!Remember, he still has 3 yrs. to finish his agenda! This was the one of the first steps (after bankrupting our country). Boehner did a GREAT job speaking for americans. I applaud him! But I am afraid BOTH parties are done for.

  16. What is fundamentally wrong is that the government, arguably the least efficient "organization" in the country, is now in charge of another huge area of our lives. In addition to that, we have allowed them to sacrifice the future of several generations to fund it...the money to fund it comes from us, this is no gift from our political leaders. We were already paying for those without insurance, who just had to show up at the nearest emergency room for free treatment, now the price has just gone up significantly. I wonder how long it will take for us to find the loophole in the President's "no federal money for abortions" decree? I have a hard time believing he will give up on that one. Very sad day for us...

  17. Greg.
Do you realize that currently over 50% of Americans who have health insurance have some form of government health insurance? Knowing that do you still think the sky is falling?

    ReplyDelete
  20. Response to 8:55am...

I assume your numbers are correct, but it doesn't really matter anymore. The government has bankrupted everything it has touched including medicare, medicaid, social security etc..Even though there has been govt. subsidies for a lot of Americans, they did not have control over the system as they now do. No, the sky is not falling, but it has completely collapsed on free enterprise. It was close before, but now the deal is sealed. We will surivive just like France, Canada, and the rest of Europe, but it will never be the Land of the Free, Home of the Brave.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Promote the sanctity of life? Are you serious? What kind of drugs are you on?

  22. They just past the highest Tax INCREASE in the history of the world! President Obama said he was going to spread the wealth; he’s well on his way of doing that. They have the steam now, so here comes “Cap and Trade” and all of his other “job killing” programs.

I sure hope the working voters remember this come election time.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Those using Social Security and Medicare as examples of a positive, well working government programs to defend this bill are either blinded by party loyalty or ignorant of the economic realities of this nation. Both programs are racing towards bankruptcy and have created an entitle program this nation simply cannot sustain. Our economic foundation has been rocked by the reckless spending, China now has as much say in economic decisions as we do and the dollar is on the verge of loosing it's long standing of the world's top currency. Why. because our debt continues to race out of the control. Both of these programs have long since grown 10000percent above the stated status when passed as will this bill. Logic + reasoning + history = a bill that will only drive costs upward at an uncontrollable pace.

As for the end of the Democratic party? They will suffer a short term set back, but just like the other programs this will create a large voting block addicted to another entitlement program; a positive for the Democrats and their belief of a larger government.

  25. It's not just about Republicans or Democrats. It's about a president that is dismanteling our country piece by piece. Just like he said 5 days before the election: "We are 5 days away from fundamentally transforming the United States of America." This is a very sad day for our country. The Democrats haven't read the bill. Noone has. All they have had to go on is talking points. They don't know for sure what is in this bill. This was an attack on our country which will continue until this so-called president has his way to destroying everything we have. The Dems sold thier souls to the devil last night. God help us!

  26. The Cold War was won by the communists/socialists without firing a shot. The gullible voters put Obama, Pelosi, Sherrod Brown in office---it was a coupe and most of us didn't even know it!

There are a few of us who heed the words in Kate's comments above and will continue the fight. However, the recipients of all this free stuff --- including illegals---will continue to vote in these socialists until we get to "revolution status". I've seen this in Seattle---most of the taxpayers moved out and the welfare people moved in to vote in the socialists----guess what?---- they ruined the city. Is that the future of the country we love?

The same way that you remained a Republican after the one-sided enactment of the Bush tax cuts which were deficit-financed to the tune of 2.48 trillion dollars. Quit believing in talk radio and think for yourself. This is not socialism. Political high-handedness, Yes. But no more than Bush's prescription drug plan. The will of the people was not crushed. The political intent of some was, as it always is.

  34. Without taking a side one way or the other on the HC issue I have to point out the monumental ignorance of "Anonymous" (what a suprise) and the painfully pathetic and insulting comment regarding how she can now empathize with the Jewish people in Germany. You clearly have no idea whatsoever what you are talking about in reagards to either the healthcare issue OR the Jews in Germany and would do us all a favor by sparing us your verbal diarrhea.

  35. To those of you who have a problem with yesterday's "socialized medicine" vote and those comparing the Dems to the Nazis (gulp), let me ask you what you think is going on currently? I have watched my personal premiums triple over the last 10 years despite the fact that I am healthy/don’t go to the doctor, I don't drink or smoke, I exercise regularly and I watch my diet/weight. So why do I have to pay so much? The answer: I am paying for everyone else's healthcare. And I don't mean just those lazy unemployed people and the illegal immigrants you guys always blame for your lot in life. I mean the people I see waddling around Darke County (which are 2/3 republican)--the drinking, smoking, out of breath when they climb a flight of steps, “supersize it”, Krispy Kreme crowd (and, before you start screaming, I’m not talking about people with illnesses that don’t have to do with lifestyle choices). We already have socialized medicine as far as I'm concerned. But, I wonder how many of you critics have stopped to think about how much your bad healthcare decisions have cost democrats like me in increased premiums? Am I happy that I am required to pay for the heart disease/diabetes/back problems etc that result from your laziness/bad decisions? No. Is it fair that you get to eat those doughnuts and I have to pay for it? Probably not. But I realize we're in this together. I guess that makes me a socialist. But, look, there's no need to thank me for subsidizing your healthcare because I know that, despite the fact that I must carry you (figuratively, not literally, thank God), I have more than I deserve and am blessed to live in the most prosperous country in the history of the world. Besides, even though I know I will always subsidize you, I'm hoping that the scriptural passage about what we do unto the "least" of our brothers applies to my charity to you, the “largest” of my brothers. :)

  39. A few weeks ago I was struck by a lightning bolt regarding this healthcare debate. Everybody talks about the polls showing a majority of Americans being opposed to the healthcare reform bill. What had not occurred to me until then is that people are assuming that all of those opposed don't like it for the reasons the GOP states. However, people could also be opposed b/c the reform bill doesn't go far enough (no public option, for example). Let me blow your mind. A CNN poll out today shows 59% opposed, 39% in favor. Sounds good for the GOP, right? The poll then asked the next question and came up with the following: 39% in favor, 43% opposed b/c it's too liberal, 13% opposed b/c ITS NOT LIBERAL ENOUGH. So, 52% of the country either favor it or think it didn't go far enough. Only 43% wanted something less (the GOP position). DJ: I hope you'll forgive the Dems if they don't forfeit just yet.

  40. I for one don't want John B. or any other politician say the American people don't want this because of a pole that was done by Fox News. Just who watches Fox, republicans that are too dumb to think for themselves. They have to watch this crazy channel to keep getting their fix.

Fox News should move out of the country with Rush Limbaugh. How easy it is to influence the public by entertaining them with TV.

  48. Here are a few:
-The unconstitutional penalty for not having insurance will likely be overthrown by the courts (as it should be). 12 states have already committed to this action. Even if it remains in effect, people will realize that it's cheaper to pay $750/yr than pay for insurance. Since the insurance companies can no longer deny based on pre-existing conditions, if someone becomes ill they can go out and get a policy and be covered. How long do you think the home owner's insurance industry would last if people could buy a policy after their house burned down?

-The CBO estimates it will cost the IRS $10 billion to enforce multiple areas of the bill. No such money has been allocated to them. The bill is more expensive than it seems. It makes me wonder just how many other hidden expenses exist.

-New taxes: high-cost insurance, indoor tanning (probably more taxes)

-The bill does not close the Medicare prescription drug doughnut hole. The dems have lied and says it does, but it's actually language in the Recon act that does this. There is no guarantee of the language staying in or the act passing.

    ReplyDelete
  49. I'm not really a Rush Limbaugh defender, but since we're accusing people of repeating what they've heard, I'll dive into two things I keep hearing on this site over and over:

-Rush never said he would move out of the country if healthcare passed. He said he would go to Costa Rica to get healthcare services. This is based on his expectation that enterprising physicians will leave the U.S. and setup private hospitals and clinics where those who can afford it can pay cash.

-Rush didn't go to Hawaii for their "free universal healthcare" when he experienced chest pain. He was already in Hawaii on vacation, and paid for his care. It wasn’t free.

Like I said, I'm not really a Rush fan, but I can't help notice the hypocrisy of people here. Those on both sides would be well served to do a little research instead of simply repeating spin.

  50. Now several States Attorney Generals are going to sue to block the bill, and again at the taxpayers expense.
    Brilliant.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Not exactly. The attorney general offices are already staffed and paid --- unlike ObamaCare which will cost a TRILLION in new dollars.

    ReplyDelete
  52. I salute Rep John Boehner!!! For all those who say that he doesn’t speak for you, you’re right! But he does speak for me. I do my own thinking just as anyone with a functioning brain does. Unfortunately, the Representatives that voted for America killing, healthless, careless, poor excuse for health care reformo NOT think for themselves. They are Obama robots. Come November we need to convert them to toasters, then the most they can do is burn your toast. A far cry from killing Americans with a larger tax burden and literally killing Americans with their version of health care.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Guess#1 you are an idiot. I'm glad the 12 states are going to fight against this bill that will further destroy our great country. I am glad to pay for that.

    ReplyDelete
  54. It's not paid for, they will have to devote money to fight it, outside firms will get some work from it, and in the end?
We are still going to be stuck with it, and more tax money gone.
And Charlie? our country is already pretty much destroyed, idiot.

    ReplyDelete
  55. I can only speculate that those who are against this reform fall into three categories: 1) they have really good, inexpensive health insurance; 2) they never get sick; or 3) they are on Medicare. My personal story: I have insurance. Amount my employer paid to the insurance company: about $5,200. Amount I paid in deductible: about $5,500. Amount my insurance co. paid for my health care: $0. What is wrong with this picture?

    ReplyDelete
  56. Charlie, you were probably also glad to pay for the Bush tax cuts that increased the deficit by over 2.4 trillion dollars!

    ReplyDelete
  57. So Obamacare is going to cost 40% as much as Bush's tax cuts? Sounds like a good deal to me.

    ReplyDelete
  58. All you chicken littles running around ranting, raving, "the sky is falling, the sky is falling" LMAO get a clue. Just like the majority of idiots who weren't educated & high as a kite in the 60's when civil rights legislation was PASSED, those then felt blacks should not be equal & a few years later blacks should not marry whites, etc. Once people started to become educated (or most anyways,) beliefs started to change & people started to relax & breath once again realizing the sky wasn't falling just as today! AMERICA BEING THE LAST INDUSTRIALIZED NATION IN THE WORLD TO PROVIDE NATIONAL HEALTH CARE FOR ITS CITIZENS is pathetic ... this legislation is a START and while some of the language is poorly written and I don't like some of the provisions, it is a start as well as a step in the right direction. Now thanks to additional motions & legislation this bill can be tweaked in the senate and passed with additional amendments making it stronger and better! BUT PEOPLE PLEASE STOP ASSUMING THE WORST & BEING SO NEGATIVE AND CONSTANTLY BASHING, WHINNING & COMPLAINING ... IT DOES GET OLD AFTER A WHILE WITH ALL THIS DARKE COUNTY PARTISAN UNEDUCATED POLITICS IN FARMVILLE, USA!
GROW A PAIR & START BEING PART OF THE SOLUTION INSTEAD OF THE NEGATIVE NANCY EVERLASTING PROBLEM FOR GOSH SAKES ... I TUNE INTO COMEDY CENTRAL JUST LIKE I DO FOX NEWS FOR A GOOD BELLY LAUGH AND NOW DARKE JOURNAL IS ALMOST AS GOOD!!!

  59. Guess #1, I am so tried of you liberals bashing Bush. You have no problem with obama raising the deficit 3 times that amount. You did not understand me in the first place. I have no problem paying taxes to fight against the health care bill. I do have a problem paying higher prices for health insurance so everyone can be insured. Why don't you take your liberal butt to England where there socalist health care system is so good. All you libs need to go to a socalist country.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Hold on Charlie, I am a Repub and some of the above comments were someone else using the nic I use here.
And yes I have a big problem with the deficit, and I had a problem with it when Bush was running it up with no way to pay for it.
I think there is no way the states are going to win in court on the HC bill, so we are going to be out that money as well.
Sorry but that is the way I see it.

    ReplyDelete
  61. I have learned over the years to never argue with idiots, aka dems and libs. They will bring you down to their level and then beat you with experience! They can only defend the HC bill because they are of the moocher, government worker and worse yet, the unionized government worker class. Most are not smart enough to work in the private sector and survive. I'd be curious as to know how many posting here are members of the democrat teachers' union. I'll bet most!

When I hear people make comments like you make, I am reminded of the statistics that show the "red" states taking more out of the federal government than they pay in taxes and the "blue" states paying in more than they take out. In other words, the red states are the "moochers" as you like to call them. I assure you that I am in the private sector and, the odds are, I am propping up people like you and giving you a job. You're welcome. PS You should send a thank you to Massachusetts and the liberal states for subsidizing all the federal tax dollars you receive. On behalf of them, you're welcome for that, too. Hurry, Glenn Beck is about to start.
