Memorial Day Tribute (by RPR)

This video tribute is an account of the men and women who serve our country on the front line, those who put their lives on the line every single day - told by Lieutenant Colonel Oliver North in 2009.

This Memorial Day, take time to remember those in the armed forces on active duty, the reservists, or service members who have fallen in the line of duty. Consider law enforcement officers, fire and rescue personnel, individual involved in national defense.

"Think of the fearless men and women who put on a uniform every day to make freedom possible-because there are no freedoms without those willing to fight for them." ~From The Ring of Freedom

Remember, reflect and honor those who have given their all in service to their country.

To help re-educate and remind Americans of the true meaning of Memorial Day, the "National Moment of Remembrance" resolution was passed on Dec 2000 which asks that at 3 p.m. local time, for all Americans "To voluntarily and informally observe in their own way a Moment of remembrance and respect, pausing from whatever they are doing for a moment of silence or listening to "Taps."

  1. What a GREAT tribute to our troops by Colonel North! Too bad our current President is too busy this weekend taking a vacation no doubt with the oil balls somebody planted for him on the beach in Louisiana for his staged photo-op to be at Arlington National Cemetery (as ALL other healthy sitting Presidents have done) to lay a wreath at the tomb of the unknown soldier. One word describes this act and unfortunately this President: DISGRACEFUL

  2. Disagree with the president all you want, but at least get the facts right.

Too bad that you do not think it disgraceful to have shreded public documents in protection of a president that provided your politically-appointed position.

  4. LL,

First of all, you can't count on the liberal-leaning snopes.cm for anything: http://www.stoptheaclu.com/2008/10/21/so-you-think-you-can-trust-snopescom/

Secondly, while Mr. Anonymous above is wrong on his facts ... the point isn't whether or not prior presidents have skipped the ceremony. The point is that Obama is already known as anti-military AND he skipped the ceremony, feeding into an already-existing discussion. Whether that's fair or unfair, it was just politically dumb to do it. A strange decision.

  5. Obama is known as "anti-military" by Republicans and others who despise him. What proof exists for this characterization? Unlike the previous Whitehouse occupant, he does not pay lip service to US troops while slashing veterans' benefits.

  6. Right! His critics think he is anti-military, and actions like skipping the Arlington ceremony only feed those criticisms. It was a dumb thing politically to do.

You want to fight the premise, rather than the point I made. I'm not fighting the anti-military argument. I'm saying it was a dumb political move.

  7. I certainly don't know his reasons for opting to give a Memorial Day address at Lincoln Cemetery, but I trust that Obama weighed the decision. I also trust that he is more savvy about politics than either you or I.

  8. This discussion exemplifies what happens any time criticism is directed at Obama.

Yes - I'd agree with you in that the guy is brilliant politically. In fact, I think that's the real problem with the guy. He's very, very good at winning elections, but not so good at leading.

And that's why I'm surprised at things like this Arlington ceremony (and several other events recently). He's not even executing his strengths at the moment. I mean seriously ... it's Politics 101 to stick around in Arlington for Memorial Day. But if you aren't going to stick around, don't go on a vacation instead.

On a broader point, Obama has done a whole bunch of frivolus things during these 40 days the oil as been gushing. I can see the GOP ad now: oil gushing, then pan to a lavish state dinner, then Obama partying in Chicago, then fundraising in CA, then back to the oil. It's just not smart. I don't get it. Seriously, I'm confused by what he's doing.

  9. DJ, It would have been "politically correct" to attend Arlington today. Too bad he didn't check with you first to make sure he was doing the right thing. Instead, he went to Chicago to enjoy time with family, and to attend a service at the Lincoln National Cemetery. It was rained out, so he spent time with service member families. I see nothing wrong with what he did. Too bad others look for the bad, no matter what.
