What other things would you like to see on this website?

Or not see? Suggestions? Constructive criticism? Non-constructive criticism? Leave a comment.

  1. I would like to see more news from all of the schools on some academic issues as well as sports. Our schools have some shining stars in academic as sports. We read so much bad news dealing with today's youth. I think we need to balance that with a of variety good news.

  2. I would like to see you do something that the Advocate doesn't copy.

  3. Perhaps you should start your own "sports" page to put local sports info there. I think I read a comment about someone getting sick of seeing so much sports, so maybe that would solve that issue for them.

Frankly, all I want is local news on what is going on, and random info about field trips your kids are taking or who just passed a kidney stone are not interesting in the slightest.

  4. Are you kidding, naked chicks man!

  5. I was gonna ask for a "Darke County Hottie of the Week," but I think that may be asking TOO much.

Read as much into that as you prefer!

  6. not sports - thats what at least half of the advocate is now.

  7. If you could walk down to the courthouse corner and ask the "ladies of the night" their prices on weekend nights, it would probably save a lot of people time. Just publish 'em right on here!

  8. Could you possibly run a full-page ad in the Greenville Advocate letting everyone know about Darke Journal? I am always amazed when I mention this site to people who don't know it exists. I tell them they are missing a great deal of local information, not to mention some rather heated and debated topics.

At the rate this site is progressing, and the rate the Advocate continues to lose subscribers, the Darke Journal might BE our local daily newspaper.

I appreciate the fact that you are questioning your readers as to what they want to see on this site - it shows that you want it to be successful. Take it in any direction you see fit because I truly think the Advocate may not be around in the not-so-far future.

  9. Really, seriously? Some of the above comments sound like they are maybe 8th grade hormonal boys. Not someone who takes a good site seriously or is interested in local news.

  10. What about school board minutes and news from local town council meetings?

  12. One thing I WOULD NOT LIKE TO SEE is a blog written by Bob Robinson!

  13. NO SPORTS. Agreed, the advocate is killing us with it now! Sorry, just not into it~

  14. I would like to see more local items that are actually meaningful news (like council & board minutes, police reports, events, all area schools news, etc.) and less gossip/shallow opinion stories, blogs, and "fluff". We have the Advocate for that kind of junk!
Darke Journal has the potential to be a great little online news source for the entire county, but so far it's a bit hindered by a little too much "jr. news".

  15. I like to come visit this site every day to view the comments of the pro's and con's from different people being aloud to post them. If I wish to see political issues at the local level that are controlled by one sided posted comments I can go to the advocate and see them their. I am so tired of web sites that become bought up by local politics in a manner that dictates how and what is aloud to be posted.
This is what I like so much about this site. People can have an opinion, and not give their name up front for those local political powers that have people in the bushes coming out to try to demean them with the own agenda. I sure hope this site continues to let people give both sides of their issue's. After all this is the Darke Journal not the Greenville journal and should continue to let the people of the whole county to voice their opinions.

  16. I agree with 9:48. If I wanted peoples stupid opions I would go to McDonalds every morning and shoot it with the old men their. If you want to become a credible news outlet vs. the Advocate (not that their credible) then all this opinion and gossip have to go. If you want to continue on in that manner then go for it I guess it will save me the trouble of having to go to McD's and try to fit in with the old men.

  18. I want to THANK YOU!!!!!!! for this WEBSITE.
I have yet to read any thank yous' from anyone for your valuable consideration for such an open forum, better than any of our local newspapers.
    1. For better or for worse amonymous comments to take or leave.
    2. Postings for current events.
    3. and yes some sports, you can glance over if you are not a sports fan.( I do not care for sports)
    4. garage sales.
    5. obits

  19. I agree with the "Thank you" post. This is a really good site and I appreciate the work that is being put into it. I would like to see more blog's from people in the community and I think it is fantastic that Mr. Robinson takes time to do things such as this. I may not always agree with his opinions but I always like to read his articles and I have a great deal of respect for the fact that he is willing to put himself out there and stand by his beliefs. I think it would be nice if the mayor's of all the communities in Darke County would be given a section to post their thoughts so we could get a better representation of what's going on in their towns instead of just Greenville.

  20. I pretty much like everything. Sometimes comments are rude, childish, and completely uninformed, but trying to limit those without going crazy with censorship would be difficult. I would like to see removal of the "Anonymous" comment option. People concerned with anonymity can use a screen-name or fake name. Removing the “Guest” option from chat was the best thing that ever occurred with the chat.

The opinions are great. There is a certain value of the opinions here that you don’t get with newspaper op-ed pieces or letters to the editor. It just needs to remain clear what content is an opinion and what is a legitimate news story.

Other things I appreciate are the weather pictures, human-interest stories, and news that is overlooked by the mainstream outlets. You do a great job condensing Darke County specific stories from the major Dayton news outlets here. The general open sharing of ideas and information is great. If people find an interesting article they can simply post the link in the chat or e-mail it in. If they want to share the minutes of the Sisters of Yarn Underwater Quilt Knitting group’s third-Thursday brunch meeting, they can. The submitted content, chat, and comments make the site seem almost alive.

To anyone that doesn’t like particular content, just skip it. It doesn’t hurt anyone to scroll past a sports story. As you’ve commented, if people want to see particular content they should go out and get it. One man with a career, family, and other activities can only do so much. I appreciate what you do with this site. The advertising is unobtrusive and limited, and I know there is no way it even comes close to covering your time and expenses. If it gets to be too much, you might try recruiting a volunteer DJ Cadre to assist with running things.

    Couldn't have said it better myself...and didn't at 9:39!

  22. I guess if I would could change one thing it would be not allowing a comment venue for every little thing. I think that sometimes just reporting on something and leaving it at that would be OK. Very often the comments just get way out of hand and turn into ignorant, personal attacks that go off of the intended topic.

    ReplyDelete
  23. The keeping of all the posts open makes it more difficult to load and to follow articles of interest.

If there could be a way to "book mark" or tag the stories wish to follow, this would allow you to skip over those of less interest to that individual.

  24. I agree with 4:58. Not every story or event needs to have a comment venue. Just let some things be a story and leave it at that!

  25. I think you have put an important Journal before the public and I know you will continue to improve as you grow, just remember that it is named the Darke Journal and not the Greenville Journal and you will exceed your own expectations.

  26. I still read the Darke Journal, but I stopped leaving comments some time ago because someone personally attacked me, then (without me really responding) the whole thing turned into a comment "war" between other people. I still read the comments, and I see that this is still going on more than often...the comments concerning the new restaurant coming to town is a great example.

All that being said, I agree with those here that have mentioned NOT having comments for everything that you report on. The new restaurant is a great example. Just report on a new restaurant coming to town and don't aloow people to get into shouting matches over stupid stuff that has nothing to do with the story. That would make this site much more enjoyable by far.

I also think that GOM has a great point. Greenville is the county seat, so there should be the most coverage on Greenville. But, if you are going to be "Darke Journal", more of an effort should be made to report on meetings, events, school issues, businesses, etc. of every other Darke County community....Ansonia, Arcanum, FM, Versailles, etc.

just my .02, but I hope it gives you something to think about DJ.
