Game 1, Monday at 7:10pm, Leake vs. Carpenter; Game 2, Tuesday at 7:10pm, Cueto vs. Garcia; Game 3, Wednesday at 12:35pm, Arroyo vs. Wainwright. The Reds lead the Cards by two games going into the series. What do you think?

UPDATE: the Reds acquired Jim Edmonds from the Brewers Monday.

UPDATE II: Wave96 reports Jim Edmonds is in the lineup and batting 5th for the Reds Monday night opener vs. the Cardinals.

UPDATE III: ugh!

  1. Time for your "A" game. Realistically will be happy for a split or better.
    Go Reds!!!!

  2. I see 2 of 3. Leake is struggling lately and Carpenter always has the Reds number. However, Cueto is going strong, as is Arroyo. I think the Reds can pull off 2 of 3. Of course, the key is to still be in first place by the end of the series. Reds sweeping the Cardinals is preferred, but I think 2 of 3 is a very likely outcome.

  4. I am debating on what game I want to try to head down and see.... I am hoping for a sweep, but we are facing some tough pitching....

  5. As a long time Reds fan, it is so much fun to have a team to really follow in the second hald of the season... I hope it's not another 20 years before we have this again!
Anyway, it's going to be a nail biting series to watch, especailly if the Reds are up by less than 4 in the 9th with Cordero coming in to pitch.
I see the Reds taking 2 of 3, only because they are at home. If this were to be in St. Louis, it would probably be the other way around.
    GO REDS!!!!!

  6. Reds Acquire Jim Edmonds!
I like the move, but lets see.....

Scott Rolen, Jim edmonds, Jason Isringhausen, Russ Springer... is this St. Louis, East?

I do like all of the aforementioned moves though.

  7. "It's on."

40 yr old J. Edmonds is not the same as the 30 yr old version, but in 60 games he is hitting .286. Add that to over 200 playoff plate appearances and that's one hell of an acquisition (who only costs whatever remains of $850k).

Helluva deal for Walt and the reds. He'll be to the outfield what Rolen is to the infield, a productive positive influence on the young guns. I'd wager they send Stubbs to Louisville and bring him back to learn from J. Edmonds in September. Either way, the race just got that much more interesting.

  8. nope, travis wood got shipped. What????????

  9. Woods was going to have to miss a turn anyways due to days off, he will make his next start in Louisville, and this gives Dusty an extra position player for a few days.
LaRussa adjusted his rotation so we would see their three best starters, No one has three better than these guys.

  10. It's too bad that the Reds didn't get Jim Edmonds 10 years ago when he was in his prime but instead we got Ken Griffey Jr., but that's water under the bridge. Now's the time and we have Edmonds in Cincinnati.

Never before in my almost 40 years of being a Reds fan have I seen so much depth in the entire club. Hitting, fielding, and pitching is at a surplus, as it was just last year that the club was full of unending injuries. Even though I don't like the idea of sending Travis Wood to AAA (for the moment) it's great to have all of this talent to root for.

  11. Sending Woods down was a very big mistake. It has angered the players and how is Wood going to benefit from this move? He is probably the second best pitcher they have and he is in the minors. Leake being shelled in his last few starts just makes sending him down look worse.

  12. anon 120:

Wood will be right back. he wouldn't have started for another 10 days or so due to off days and such anyway.

Players understand this. I would challenge you to show me one thing that demonstrates the players are angry about it.

Wood will be back in 9 days, count on it. Until then, they can carry an extra bench player.

  13. Hey Brandon. How about you shut your mouth and just play ball? You need to learn that if you or your team can't back it up on the field you should not be running smack. Very disappointing showing the last two days.
