This is combined with the Wave’s re-entry into the Greater Western Ohio Conference (G.W.O.C.) after a five year absence. The 18 team G.W.O.C. is divided into three divisions. Greenville joins the North Division, along with existing members Piqua, Troy, Sidney, Vandalia Butler and Trotwood Madison. Sports competition for the Green Wave as a member of the G.W.O.C. starts this fall, except for football, which will not begin until the fall of 2012. Entry back into the G.W.O.C. will be better received than the present schedule, which was made up with Greenville as an independent school.

This represents a new beginning, both for the Athletic Department and the Athletic Boosters. The Boosters have a new slate of officers: Ron Holzapfel (GHS, ’85), President; Mike Baker , Vice President; Jody Thornhill Lockhart (GHS ’84), Secretary; Jonie Drew, Treasurer; and Ellen Hetzler, Public Relations. Ellen has developed a new website for the Boosters, through the Greenville Schools website www.greenville.k12.oh.us, then click on “Athletics”, then click “GHS, home of the Green Wave Boosters”. A new “100 Club” which will be made up of 100 supporters giving $100 each for the Boosters this year, will receive perks for helping the Wave Athletics program.

The scheduling of Indiana teams can be a genius move that I have been calling for for a while. In computing Harbin points, Indiana schools are assigned a certain division point level according to their enrollment, just like any Ohio school would be. HOWEVER, the key difference is that any school that the Indiana (or any out of state school) beats counts for that amount of level 2 points. THUS, find a school that plays with the same number of boys as a D-1or2 school in Indiana that plays in a conference full of teams that would only qualify as D-3thru6 in Ohio and any of the IN team's wins count in Greenville's level 2 points as a D-1or2 victory for the IN team in terms of Ohio Harbin points for computing ranking in regions, as opposed for only counting as D-3thru6 points for the level 2 points if they were Ohio schools.

Theoretically, a 6-4 season could be good enough for the playoffs, if not worse, if you schedule your out of state teams right. Just something to think about!
