SUSAN PARKER NAMED DIRECTOR OF GATEWAY YOUTH PROGRAMS

Council on Rural Services recently announced that Sue Parker of the Troy area has been named the new director of the Gateway Youth Programs in the three county service area, which includes Darke County.

Ms. Parker comes to the agency with many years of experience in providing services to Miami County youth and families. She most recently worked at Upper Valley JVS as a crisis counselor, but also has been employed with CASA/GAL of Miami County, Miami Co. Mental Health Center and Miami County Juvenile Court.

Sue said, “It is a privilege to join an agency that focuses on helping youth realize their full potential. Gateway Youth Program is dedicated to serving youth who may be struggling with family relationships or having academic difficulty. We develop a supportive relationship with the youth and families to help them manage the crisis.”

Shirley Hathaway, executive director said, “We see Sue as a tremendous asset to our team in seeking out new opportunities and developing new partnerships. Besides the regular program director duties, she will be focusing her efforts on developing a new “Entrepreneurial Success” education program for youth. Sue’s extensive knowledge and commitment to youth makes her the right choice in furthering our mission. ”

Parker has a Masters degree from Wright State University in Mental Health Counseling, a BS degree from Eastern Kentucky University in Adult Corrections and AA in Juvenile Corrections.

Sue currently lives in Troy and has two daughters, Allison who is attending Elon University in North Carolina and Laura who is a freshman at Kaplan College. Sue continues to volunteer her time with CASA/GAL as a guardian ad litem/special advocate and enjoys time at home refinishing furniture, flower gardening, and spending time with her family.

Sue is traveling in the counties to meet the community and agency leaders and ask their thoughts about the areas’ needs.
