DCSO: 22 MONTH OLD FLOWN TREATED FOLLOWING NEAR DROWNING

On July 26th, 2011 at approximately 2:20 PM, Darke County Sheriff's Deputies along with the Pitsburg Fire Department, Arcanum Rescue and Careflight were dispatched to 4189 Swinger Road in reference to a possible drowning.

Preliminary investigation revealed a 22 month old child was playing near a private pond while other children were swimming. The adults discovered the child was missing and started a search. During the search, it was discovered that the child was in the pond without a life jacket. The Darke County Communication Center received a 9-1-1 call and with the aid of a Darke County 9-1-1 Dispatcher, CPR was initiated.

The child was airlifted to Miami Valley Hospital and later to Children's Hospital. The child is listed in critical condition.

The incident remains under investigation.

  1. Praying for him and his parents, maybe others can do the same.....I think we under estimate the power of prayer.

  2. I hope that this child is OK, but I can't help but wonder why the parents of a child under the age of 2 were not within sight of him around the pool area at all times.

  3. It's easy to pass judgement but these things happen in the matter of seconds. I pray Miles is ok and that the Lord is with everyone that was witness to what happened.

  4. True. But I believe that egg does make a pretty good point. No child under the age of 5 should be around any type of water area without the parents being right there ALL THE TIME... it's only a matter of seconds.
