WHIOTV.com: New Business Park Under Construction

WHIOtv.com's Steve Baker covers the ground breaking of a new business park in Greenville near the 36/127 intersection. It's being called the Integrity Business Park and will contain Integrity's corporate headquarters, as well as space for future businesses. Check out the full video by clicking on the image below.

  1. The city gives away 400k to a private person to develop the land he purchased and he puts up a pole barn.

  2. It's great to see Greenville beginning to move forward. I hope that Greenville and Darke County can continue the forward momentum with economic developement.

  3. How about some new business that will create more than a handful of jobs? I mean, yes, it is good to see any new jobs created. But all these little businesses that only create a few jobs really aren't going to help much. We need manufacturing jobs, something on the level of what Corning was, or Fram used to be. That would greatly help this area.

  4. a large manufacturing facility with hundreds of jobs would be fantastic. However, what the city/county does NOT need to do is rely on one or two large employers who provide jobs that are so easily outsourced/moved. It's proven dangerous to rely on 1 or 2 major employers, particularly when it was so easy for them to downsize/move (of course, there are a lot of other factors here including government intervention, etc).

Personally, I'd rather have 4 new employers each providing 25 jobs than 1 that provides 100. It's less risky in terms of employment for the area, and less likely to create the devasation to the local economy that is had when one of those large employers disappears.

  6. Oh . . . I get it now. We want to attract the big manufacturers who employ a bunch of people. Man, I wish you had brought this up sooner. We had 5 big employers knock on our door last week but we told them we weren't interested.

  7. That "pole barn" is helping to save 40+ jobs. If the city had done nothing, then you would be complaining about that.

  8. Explain why the craphole that is Union City can get two new factories, and we can't? Hell, half their population can't even speak English and most likely illegal.

  9. It saved nothing. If you believe this, then you are advocating that the 12 people that the business currently employs amounts to 400k of city taxpayer money. I'm all for economic development, but this was a clean give away to a guy who needed to have a branch in this area.

  10. The company was here and I don't think the city using 400k and laying off to keep them when in fact they were going to stay is wise.

  11. 400k is indeed the figure sir. They weren't going anywhere. They need a branch here just like Spirit has a Sidney branch now. Just giving the facts.

  12. Wow BE...I live in the "craphole" and teach in the "craphole" that is Union City. I take that personally. Think before you push "Post Comment." Don't you own a business in Union City anyway? Why would you insult your own customers? Great business sense!

  13. Sorry, I do not own a business in Union City, nor would I.

  14. Don't take it personal Hermie, Union City is indeed a craphole, and everyone knows it, except you I guess. You couldn't pay me enough to live or have a business there.

  16. No, I just hate illegals that can walk around here, come in to my business with wads of cash as big as your wrist, yet can not offer up a legitimate address or even phone number for a warranty.

Keep defending the leeches and moochers, they are doing wonders for our country. I mean look how well they have boosted Union City's reputation.....

  17. Maybe they have money because they are hard workers, maybe they even work harder than you. Doesn't automatically make them leeches, moochers or illegals. Then again, maybe they are. But I won't PRESUME to know.

  18. Union City suffered an economic decline because of GM/ the Body company pulling out; hence the "craphole" of today as you so eloquently choose to put it. Union City has new factories moving in because someone went out and aggressively chased those companies down and sold Union City HARD as the place those factories needed to be.

Unless you live in UC or have lived there in the last 35 years then I don't know that you really have anything to go on but hearsay. I've lived on both sides of Stateline, as a child and as an adult; other than the repercussions of that close-down UC is no crappier than any of the other towns in Darke County (and I've lived in a few of them).

  19. Beth - you must not get around to all the other towns. Some are quite nice. It's not UC's fault but don't drag the others down with you.

  20. The Integrity Business Park is a perfect example of the city establishing what is known in economic development as an "activation point". The mainstream's concepts about consumerism have done real harm to the fabric of communities, resulting in a deep dissatisfaction with life. By offer an alternative based on viewing the community as a place of abundance and of renewed connections and relationships, we foster the rebirth and developmental growth within our communities.

Individuals, families, and neighborhoods have become isolated and alienated through the atomization of consumerist behavior. Instead of providing happiness and a satisfying and fulfilling life, the transition from citizen to consumer has caused a deep disconnection from other people and the entire community. The essential tools and means of changing the misguided principle of people as consumers to one of citizens, neighbors, and community. Everyone within the community, regardless of their status or marginal position, has something to offer to the overall benefit of all.

By creating these activation points within our city such as The Integrity Business Park we are slowly rebuilding these notions of community continuity. This project sets the table for the formulation of additional future projects, and the table and mindset of development is spread so on and so forth.

The principle spreads out through other areas of our community as well. Lets look at social enterprise, for example. One model to look at would be the community garden. One which involved either school aged children or at risk youth. By fostering these organizations, you are building faith in the community. You are interacting on a socially connected level and building not just the interest of an individual, but the involvement of an entire community for a common good. This attitude spreads throughout the community and suddenly you have a network of people who enact the change you so desperately seek.

In addition, you could explore the benefits of creating bike trails within a region, which has already been initiated in our area. Beyond being a source of social and personal enjoyment, These projects foster those same activation points within the community which stimulate a network of individuals to focus on a common goal in bringing those recreational opportunities to the area. In turn, those recreational opportunities bring the enjoyment which gives our lives a sense of fulfillment. I think you would nearly all agree that if you are in a state of constant discontent with your surroundings, it tends to heighten your desire to abandon those surrounds for an area which is filled with greater happiness.

To sum things up, creating activation points like the Integrity project is like drawing a map of city development, the more points you place on that map, the more focus you have to grown and offer to the community.

I open these ideas up for debate,as those actions will bring about the progress this area desires. Anyone wishing to further expand on these ideas is openly invited to join me at Sweet One O One this evening, Wednesday, July 27th at 6:00 PM for an open discussion regarding the advancement of our community. No agendas set, just an exchanging of thoughts to bring out ideas for consideration.
